So, just reading through the list of compounds listed in the toxicology report and decided to look at the methanol. I suppose there are ways to get trace amounts of methanol in ones system naturally and hopefully someone with more knowledge than I may be able to shed more light on the subject, because I am certainly no authority on the matter. That aside, I assume that the report is stating that he had a concentration of 20 mg per 100 grams of body weight ( methanol is typically measured in litres but once in the blood stream maybe they have to measure in concentrations)? I don't know if I figured this right but assuming Marcus weighed 200 lbs ( not sure of actual weight just using that as a reference) that would equal approximately 91 KG and if there are 1000 grams to a KG per the report he would have a total body weight concentration of 18,200 mg (which if I am reading correctly is way above the reference dose of 0.5 mg/kg per day),which seems to equal about about 17-18 milliliters. According to wikipedia: "As little as 10 mL (0.34 US fl oz) of pure methanol can cause permanent blindness by destruction of the
optic nerve. 30 mL (1.0 US fl oz) is potentially fatal." So it would seem that level of Methanol is kinda high. Maybe I am totally off base here and I hope someone with more knowledge looks at this and can let me know. If not, how did he get that much methanol in his system? It is usually found in fuels and formaldehyde etc. I have heard of folks with severe alcoholism consuming other forms of alcohol ( hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol etc.) Also ethanol ( not sure about methanol but I would assume it to be similar) leaves the body rather quickly so it would seem that the methanol would have been ingested shortly before death occurred, no?
