2:30 p.m. — Police Chief Jim Craft says there is so far no reason to believe Brettly Wilson had anything to do with the disappearance of his friend, 22-year-old Mickey Shunick.

Craft confirmed Thurday that Wilson was given a polygraph test, but he said he could not reveal the results of that test.

“Polygraphs are part of many investigations,” Craft said, “but we’re not going to release any information along those lines that could maybe hamper our investigative efforts.”

Craft also revealed the existence of video footage from the Taco Bell Wilson told investigators he and Shunick went to the morning she disappeared. In that video, Craft said you can see Wilson, but you can’t see his passenger.

“But we know [Shunick] was there because she told a friend on a phone call she was there, and her ATM [card] was used there,” Craft said. “And you can see him turning in the vehicle, so he’s talking to someone.”

Craft also said they have picked up several items of potential evidence, but so far, none of those seems to be connected to the case. He also confirmed that her cell phone was turned off and that police are not able to get any information about her location using that avenue.

“It’s the type of cell phone that, when you cut it off, you can’t ping it,” Craft said.

Wilson was the last person to see Shunick.

Thank you for this info. Ok. That bike route makes sense and is semireasonable. The two bad stretches are St. Landry to Colliseum Road and then Colliseum Road to Frat Row. However a college frat row bike path does seem like a risk at night. A perv can wait for young students. Sounds great in daytime but at night I'd prefer the road to the bike path.
I have to wonder just HOW safety conscious the college-age crowd is :waitasec:. We were out looking around on Coliseum Rd. yesterday and in the large stretch of field/coulee that borders it. Before we left the area, we decided to go into my daughter's sorority house to use the bathroom. There was someone at the house when we first got there but they had already left prior to us returning. There is a keypad to enter a security code to access the bldg BUT, daughter didn't need to enter the code because the last person to leave the building had not closed the door securely to where it was locked and the door pushed right open. Needless to say, it alarmed me especially knowing Mickey was missing and may have been very, very near that particular area.

I understand that Mickey is 22? It is also stated that she is a Senior majoring in Anthropology. By saying she is a senior, do you think they meant she just completed the first semester of her senior year (will graduate at end of summer or in December '12)? If she just completed her senior year she would had or would be graduating this month??

As a parent of a student there, I would be talking to someone about the door not locking so that others who come along quickly can gain access. Not good!

God I hope this girl is alive. We don't need another freak murderer on the loose like the ones we had in the past. Just glad I'm retired from home health and not having to go to strangers homes in all parts of the city.

In my understanding, she said the door does lock securely. The person who left before just didn't shut it all the way. The door on the sorority house is working correctly as long as the person closes it.

For the people questioning Mickey's sisters statement, IMO I think that news outlet is a flop and making up their own statements.

I found this video that obviously contradicts what the news paper is saying.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ia3ZLvu9JCI&feature=related"]Mickey Schunick: Hot 107-9 Interview With Sister Of Mickey Segment #1 - YouTube[/ame]

She says that it's not abnormal for her to get on her bike at 2:00 am.

In my opinion, I would beleive the words directly for Charlie's (I think that how she spells her nick names)mouth rather than some newspaper who probably just wanted to do a very lazy job as do most reporters these days.

Such a sad story. I hope they find her really soon!

Hey Everyone, I've been lurking here since the beginning of this discussion and just wanted to put in my 2 cents:

SK_Hunter brought up the quote from BW where he says something about he and MS having a platonic relationship. And if you watch/listen, he then says (a bit after the fact) "but that was OK." (I'll try not to harp on the "WAS" being a Freudian slip.) The placement and even the tone of the comment is a bit awkward. And if nothing else I think it, and some of his other relationship-related comments, show that there was clearly some sort of tension there.

Maybe he offered to let her stay at his house and she declined. And not at all to insinuate that he did something to her, but such a disagreement could explain why he didn't bother to call and check up on her a little later. Or why she would rather just bike home.

I'm still on the fence as far as BW's involvement is concerned.

Also, on a few other things:
1. Checking the tires before leaving sounds normal. She seems to have small road tires which are prone to slicing.
2. The bike trail is a fairly new addition to the city, and is paved, well-lit and fairly wide. But if you go down Frat Row to hit the bike trail you will have missed most of it and only have a hundred yards or so to go before hitting Congress, which would have lots of people and plenty of light.
3. The fair is an annual thing, and is fairly large. I pass by that area every day, and that day quite a few of the rides had arrived, but were still on trucks in the staging area. Which is also where the carnival workers usually set up their little town of bunk trailers and such. There were quite a few workers there, but they weren't by any means in full force. MS would have passed right by this area once she hit Congress. And had she picked up a flat or some other issue I guess there's a chance that one of the workers may have offered to help and led her back to their trailer. But there is a well-lit CVS just across from there where she probably would have been more inclined to assess the situation and contact help.

Well, hate to say it, but if they're waiting another 23+ hours to hold a presser, I'm not confidant that LE knows something and is merely "playing its cards close to its vest." I assume they're still pursuing initial leads. (I could be wrong though. Of course!)

I just got a text from my mom, saying that a large number of police are gathered at the end of Percy Rd which is off Congress Extension past Shannons Bar on right. She also says a large unmarked truck just pulled out, not sure if this is anything or not? Just thought I would share.....

Can you get your mom to take a pic and post it here?

I've been keeping up with this forumn since the beggining and noticed that no one really brought up the possibility of her seeing a friend at "his" own house, going to talk to them for a few short minutes and "him" snatching her and putting her bike in their garage. I hate to even think or type these words, but it would be reasonable as to why no one would have saw her get kidnapped. This is, assuming she went through residential neighborhoods.

It's probably in regards to the shooting that took place there Tuesday:

New here and trying to absorb all this, so feel free to fill me in where I'm wrong. BW and MS leave a bar, MS saying she doesn't feel good, is tired and hungry. If I read it somewhere I don't remember but I assume that was relatively late. They go back to BW's house, get in his car, go to Taco Bell, go back to BW's house, eat, MS leaves on her bike at 2 am. I've never been to Lafayette so I certainly don't know the area and there may be more than one Taco Bell, but on the map someone posted regarding the likely route, I saw a Taco Bell at about the halfway point to MS's home. The thing that just doesn't make sense to me is if MS is sick, tired and hungry and the Taco Bell is already halfway home, wouldn't it seem more likely that she would have just gotten the food and gone home to eat since she's sick and tired and heck, already half way there. Obviously, it doesn't mean they didn't go back to his house after Taco Bell, it just doesn't make sense when you're almost already at her front door step anyways.
