Vernon Parish Sheriff's deputies have now located the bodies of a woman and her son who have been missing since Thanksgiving. They have arrested the woman's boyfriend, who is the father of one of woman's other children, in connection with the deaths.

Sheriff Sam Craft said the bodies of Misty Marshall, 32, and her son Day-Min Marshall, 9, were found Thursday.

The search for Misty and Day-Min continued until Thursday, when Misty's body was located in a wooded area near New Llano, and Day-Min's body was found near the home where he had been living.

RIP Misty & Day-Min.
I'm so sad to see this. Glad they have a suspect. I do wonder what happened?

Hearing final confirmation of what we knew in our hearts to be true is just devastating.

im thinking either

A. child abuse and mom intervened

B. spousal abuse and son intervened.

I did look at the suspect's fb and he did post pix w day-min like he cared, unless it was all a façade. he didn't post pix w her other non mutual children.

RIP Misty & Day-Min.

Jury selection began Monday in 30th Judicial District Court for the trial of a Vernon Parish man accused of murdering his fiance and one of her children.

Matthew Dotson, of New Llano, is facing two counts of first-degree murder in the 2015 deaths of 32-year-old Misty Marshall, of Simpson, and her nine-year- old son, Day-Min.

Jury convicts Dotson on both first-degree murder charges

http://www.leesvilledailyleader.com/news/20170921/jury-convicts-dotson-on-both-first-degree-murder-charges

It took almost two years to bring Matthew Dotson to trial for the murders of his fiancé and her son, and three days to try him. The jury needed less than an hour to convict him.

Nine women and three men found Dotson guilty Thursday afternoon of the first-degree murder of Misty Marshall, 32, and her son Day-Min, 9, just after Thanksgiving 2015.

Judge Vernon Clark will formally sentence Dotson on Oct. 13.

Judge rejects acquittal motion, gives Dotson consecutive life sentences

http://www.leesvilledailyleader.com/news/20171013/judge-rejects-acquittal-motion-gives-dotson-consecutive-life-sentences

Judge Vernon Clark did everything within his authority Friday to guarantee Matthew Dotson spends the rest of his life behind bars.

Clark sentenced Dotson, convicted in September of the first-degree murders of his fiancé Misty Marshal and her son Day-Min, 9, to consecutive life sentences, without probation, parole or suspension of sentence.

The victims were killed the Sunday after Thanksgiving, 2015, from blows to the head, apparently delivered with a rubber mallet.

Clark told Dotson the sentences were consecutive rather than concurrent because “no matter what the Legislature does in the future (regarding mandatory sentencing, etc.) I want it clear that my intent is you never see daylight outside prison again.”
