Mother accused of abandoning child on highway and falsely reporting kidnapping

A Louisiana mother has been charged after falsely reporting the kidnapping of her child, whom she allegedly ran over and abandoned on a highway.

The mother, Artasia Quantaya Viges, told authorities that a group of individuals in an old model truck had taken her son while she was parked on the roadway due to a flat tire.

This is an odd situation. First, the story says the child is a girl "her knees" and then "allow him to run off..." and "...lost sight of him."

And did she actually run over him? Or was he/she only injured when jumping/falling out of the car on his/her knees?

"A subsequent interview with Artasia Viges revealed the awful truth; there was no kidnapping and a young child was left unattended along a major roadway and allowed to run off in the night," police said. What started as a disagreement between a mother and a child became a bizarre reaction to the child having a tantrum."

Police said that when Viges pulled the car over, the child -- "obviously not properly restrained" -- bailed out of the car before it came to a stop, which resulted in injuries to the child's knees.

It sounds as if the child was having a tantrum. His mother began to pull over. Child (obviously unrestrained) jumped out of the still moving vehicle, which caused abrasions to his knees. Mother proceeds to let child run off to a point she can no longer see him. She panics and reports him "kidnapped" so she won't get into trouble for basically abandoning him on the side of the road. So it seems as if child and mother were having a tantrum resulting in his injuries. MOO
