I’m going to give her a tentative pass on that one, as much as I hate to use “her” and “pass” in the same sentence. That sentiment has been screamed by countless caregivers in 2020. But I don’t think anyone goes from zero to inflicting stomach/head injuries…it’s a good thing the 11mo old won’t remember any of this .

Bonds for Lanaya Cardwell and Phillip Gardner is set at $375K in the case of Nevaeh Allen. If bond is posted, they will remain under house arrest and can’t have any contact with minors. Both were charged with 2nd degree murder. Next court appearance is Nov 8.

No contact with minors.. Except the baby LC is 8 months pregnant with. So many levels of tragedy.


If they are both able to post bond and remain under house arrest with no other major restrictions on them, it seems they would be able to be living together again in that apartment? I hope there is a no contact order between the two of them so they can't get their stories lined up -- also they are another DV incident waiting to happen.

After Nevaeh’s death — which allegedly happened after her mother, Lanaya Cardwell, 24, punched her — police say two other children in the household were brought along to a remote patch of woods in Mississippi while Nevaeh’s self-described stepfather disposed of her body.

"When the 3-year-old girl told relatives that her 2-year-old sister Nevaeh Allen was “in the forest,” no one knew what to make of it."

Cardwell's mother, [J.B], and younger brother, [C.A] also said Gardner’s older children told them Cardwell shouted at the toddler.

“Lanaya got real mad about it and she was talking to Nevaeh like Nevaeh was a grown woman, saying ‘f--- you b----, you ain’t s---,’” the brother said. “That’s what the kids was telling us.”

That his reaction was to cover up for the 'mom' is so twisted. I think that gives incredible insight into both of these adults and their relationship. His concern was not at all for Nevaeh, not for getting her treatment, for comforting her, for intervening during the assault, for protecting the other children... His only focus was on concealing the truth and the crime, protecting the mother, getting back to life as normal in their abusive and violent household.

Not only did he kill N but he involved and impacted the three year old who witnessed and provided an (essentially) eyewitness description of N's body being dumped.


That he brought along the two other little ones to dispose of her is twisted (the whole situation is). That all of these children have likely witnessed and been victims (directly or indirectly) of various forms of abuse is devastating. Their worldview has been shaped by the abusive environment they have been born and raised into.


The older children, again providing damning evidence of Lanaya's verbal berating of Neveah, not only incredibly sad for N but gives a glimpse into how they children were so horribly mistreated.


So many little lives were already effected by being in this family and even more so now. It will be a long road ahead for getting Nevaeh her legal justice and the children all of the help and support they need.

Trial underway in Nevaeh Allen murder case

The trial is officially underway for Phillip Gardner, the man accused of murder in the 2021 Nevaeh Allen case.

The trial is officially underway for Phillip Gardner, the man accused of murder in the 2021 Nevaeh Allen case.

Detectives say the child was stuffed into a suitcase, and her body was later found in the woods in Mississippi. A list of evidence that will be presented during the trial shows that Gardner and Cardwell had been writing letters to each other while incarcerated.

Meanwhile, in court, Gardner’s defense was asking potential jurors about discipline and what crosses the line when it comes to discipline.

Why did it take nearly 4 years to get to trial? What part of this did someone not understand? A 2 yr old is a baby - still learning what to touch and not to touch. A 2 yr old should never be shouted at, called names, punched and treated like trash. It is beyond my understanding how "humans" like this can continue to drop babies all over the place and care zero for them and people that desperately want a child are run thru the ringer to try to adopt.

I was like a lot of people on here - please, this time, don't let it be the mom/dad/boyfriend/girlfriend. Don't let my faith in humanity take another hit. But here we are - waiting, waiting, waiting - for another little one to get some form of justice. It won't stop it from ever happening to another baby, but hopefully it will stop it for these two.

Someone upthread back in 2021 said they hoped Neveah was being rocked by a sweet grandma in Heaven - that makes me happy. I hope all the babies are being rocked and are safe and warm and never afraid again.
