It doesn't say how long the body had been there--I'd guess a high likelihood the person was a victim of Hurricane Katrina.

Yeah, found in Early September of 2005, that sounds like a Katrina body to me.

Did they ever find this person's car? A 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 that was never claimed? I feel like had the city not been completely overwhelmed around that time finding this person's identity would have been fairly easy.

I wonder if they have a specific list of people who went missing during Katrina that have still not been found. There is apparently Thirty bodies that have still not been identified

I just started looking it up and some good news is apparently all of the children who went missing became Accounted for within a year.

But this person was most likely in their twenties or thirties... Hm, I wonder how much effort has been put in by civilians to identify those lost in the storm.

I don't mean to bring up outside issues, but the times we've visited New Orleans, there has been a lot of talk about racial factors in locating the missing people. Or, to put it bluntly, next to no effort was put into finding the missing blacks from the poorer sections of town.

I imagine that there were thousands of missing and destroyed vehicles after the hurricane, as well. Even if it had been located, there probably wouldn't have been any way to identify it in the mess. Though that was a fairly new vehicle at the time.

how sad that they don't ID the gender or race at all.. I guess they were really overwhelmed at that time. can they update it or were all of the UID's cremated or something?

That's pretty much next door to one of my best friend's houses. I'm not sure what that area would have looked like immediately post Katrina, it's in the outskirts of the Treme area, right next to the Central Business District and not far from the French Quarter.

I found this news article with a photo of Canal Street the day after Katrina left. http://www.cnbc.com/2015/08/30/-and-now-in-pictures.html

I think it was taken facing the river, so North Miro would be behind us.

I',ll see what I can find .... vehicles were hauled out by the thousands some
claimed some not claimed ... and some you still see in the overgrown areas down in the Lower 9th ward.

This body was found prior to allowing citizens back in the city ... it was someone who did not leave for Katrina.

This uid was wearing an orange t-shirt with "Cross gates Athletic Club" writing. There is a Cross Gates Family Fitness on Military Road in Slidell, La. That same Google search pulled up a few links for Cross Gates Athletic Club in Slidell. Slidell is about 40 minutes across Lake Pontchartrain. This is also where Interstates 10, 12, and 59 intersect.

I'm curious to know if the cloth band on his right wrist is an ID bracelet with the name "Samson" or if it's a store bought wrist brace like this one:

LA - LA - Roy Allen Clark, Port Eads, escaping Hurricane Katrina, 28, Aug. 2005.

I think Roy Allen Clark might be an interesting potential match for this UID. He was "on a boat" attempting to "leave the area" before Hurricane Katrina arrived. Normally I'd think fishing/boating type accident but in this case I get the feeling he may have been on a work boat evacuating employees before the storm. As such it could be that the boat made landfall, employees left in their personal or company vehicles to drive north to safety. My familiarity with oilfield worker life reminds me that there are times when there's no communication during the boat trip. Once the workers hit land they may or may not immediately make a call home, rather they just show up at the approximate time they may have guestimated during the "we're headed out on the boat" phone call. I wonder if that might be the case with Roy? Maybe he made it to land then ran into trouble near Slidell? I wish we could know whether he'd have any connection to a Dodge pickup truck.

The physical description pretty much matches as Roy is described as 18yo, 5' 10"(UID 5' 8") with short black hair (UID same). The work gloves found nearby and the red bandana around the UID's neck have me real curious.

Case was updated in Namus around 12 months ago; I can't see any significant changes. Still nothing to indicate gender or race.
