Identified! LA - New Orleans, woman's burned body near SUNO, Dec'10 - Aisha Lee

  • #61
I grew up and lived most of my life in Gentilly about a mile or so from the stadium where the body was found. It's in an area that is somewhat isolated, even more so since Katrina. You'd almost have to live in the vicinity to even know it exists. Technically, it's not New Orleans East, but just west of the Industrial Canal. NOE begins east of the canal. Parts of NOE are high crime, and the stadium is close enough that it's reasonable to assume the victim and/or her killer either lived there.

The sketch looks enough like Asia that she could be a match. The age fits, too. She lived with her father in Slidell and attended Slidell High School until 2003, so she might've had friends in New Orleans East. (The two areas are connected in many ways even though the lake separates them geographically.) Makes me wonder why she moved to Hattiesburg in her junior year. Was she hanging out with the wrong crowd in Slidell? But if she came to the area in May of 2005 when she first disappeared, she wasn't there the whole time. In August of 2005, Katrina left the entire lakefront, Gentilly, and New Orleans East were under water for weeks. Practically everything was destroyed. Of course, that's not to say she couldn't have returned there later. It just seems strange that if she were living the street life here during Katrina, she wouldn't have contacted family members when she evacuated and needed a place to stay, especially since she'd only been away a few months.

If she bought the ticket on the 24th, talked to her mother on the 27th, and then walked out of her life, that sounds like a major rupture. It could have been one of those things where she was too proud to beg for help. She could also have returned post-Katrina.

That might even be connected to the Jezebel tattoo -- I can picture a fight where the mother called her a Jezebel and she said "I'll live my own life" et cetera.

The baby girl tattoo with a rose makes me wonder if she lost a baby.

Reading over the latest information for a second time, I noted a couple of things I'd overlooked on the first read. The UID was 5'6", Asia was 5'2". Even allowing for slight error, that's a pretty big difference. Also, Asia had double piercings in both ears. The reconstruction is shown with only one pair of earrings. If the UID has double pierced ears, I would think she would have been shown with a double set of earrings. On the other hand, considering the extensive burns to her body, the ear lobes might have been gone, and the earrings just added for effect. The descriptions make no mention of piercings. Regardless, the height difference seems to rule out Asia Martin.

I can't believe no one has identified this poor woman. The first story and the new information released this week were carried by all the local news outlets, and others around the state. By now someone should have recognized the tattoos, unless she was new to the area, just passing through, or her body was brought here from elsewhere.

Since we kind of established a musical connection...I came across some lyrics to a Sade song called, "Jezebel"...have never heard it myself, but I thought the lyrics were appropriate for this young lady.

Jezebel wasn't born with a silver spoon in her mouth
She probably had less than every one of us
But when she knew how to walk she knew
How to bring the house down
Can't blame her for her beauty
She wins with her hands down
Jezebel, what a belle
Looks like a princess in her new dress
How did you get that
Do you really want to know, she said
It would seem she's on her way
It's more, more than just a dream
She put on her stockings and shoes
Had nothing to lose - she said it was worth it

Reach for the top
And the sun is gonna shine
Every winter was a war she said
I want to get what's mine

Jezebel Jezebel
Won't try to deny where she came from
You can see it in her pride
And the raven in her eyes
Try show her a better way
She'll say you don't know what you've been missing
And by the time she blinks you know she won't be listening

Reach for the top she said
And the sun is gonna shine
Every winter was a war she said
I want to get what's mine

What about Tova Barnett (Namus 4047)? Her height would also be off by a few inches. The picture of her in the "scrub" type top looked a lot like the UID.

Here's another that strongly resembles the UID. I have a hard time believing she would have all the tattoos though. I really wish I could do the side to side for this one! Coincidentially, her name is Iasia.

Sorry to bombard the thread today. My last post referenced Iasia Sweeting. There are a lot of discrepancies...tattoos, stature, weight, etc. but it looks as if Iasia Sweeting is into entertainment...if I have this right, she is also known as the Protedgy Poet and has a few videos on youtube. Her work is somewhere between rap and poetry and one of the comments wished her good luck at the Apollo. ??

Side by side of UID and Iasia Sweeting. You might be onto something here.

I wonder how sure they are of the height and age? It doesn't sound like anyboyd had seen her recently, so she could have acquired several tattoos, but she's way out of band on the rest.

Except the face...

She would have had to acquire a lot of tattoos since 2009, including some that looked pretty faded in the UID's photos. This video of the MP has her wearing shorts and a tank top, and she does not have any visible tattoos:

They DO look alike, though!

Good video, Tatertot. Yeah, I don't think it's the same woman. In the video, Iasia's nose looks a little different. A little longer and not quite as broad through the upper part. I think the UID's nose probably has a bit of arch to it as well.

Good work, tabacue. Of the three, Tova is the closest match, IMO. I came across her last weekend, and believe it or not, I've had her CP page open in my browser for several days. I wish we knew more about her. I agree that one photo in particular looks very much like the UID, but her height is off by 2-3 inches.

I also learned of Sade's song for the first time last week. The lyrics describe the African American stereotype referred to as a "jezebel" who uses her charms to get what she wants, particularly from caucasian men. And of course, Jezebel for ages has been a name associated with "naughty" women of all backgrounds. So I wonder if the correlation is between the song or simply the stereotype.

Obviously there's a common thread running through all of the tattoos. I started working on a profile of sorts based on the tattoos last Sunday, but the week became very hectic, and I had to set it aside. I think they tell much more about her other than the fact that she was probably from the south and had been living the street life for quite some time. Those tattoos are like puzzle pieces to me, and I can't resist trying to fit them together. Don't know how far it will go toward matching her, though, since all we really have to work with are physical characteristics.

Carbuff, I don't claim to be an expert by any means, but from what I understand, height determination is generally pretty accurate, especially with a full skeleton.

Was looking at this UID again today. I wish we could find who she is.

I found Constance Anderson, who went missing from Mansfield LA in January of 2006. She was born in August 1986, which would make her 24 in December 2010, a bit under the younger end of the range but not a lot. She's 5'5", which is right on, and about 150 lbs, which is heavier than the UID but she could have lost weight in 4 years.

No tattoos mentioned but if she was living on the street for 4 years she could have acquired them. Anderson was thought to be pregnant when she left; the "baby girl" tattoo might indicate she lost the baby or gave it up for adoption.

I can't tell if the faces match. The odd angle Constance is reclining at is really throwing me off.

Aside from the chins, they look reasonably similar. But IMO, their chins are at opposite extremes. Constance has a very prominent chin. Jane Doe's chin is very small.

Thanks. I can't tell at all with her head tucked like that. The other question is, whether that's likely to be part of what's not quite accurate when the spokeperson at the FACES lab says that, "...it's hard to say exactly how accurate the composite photo is, but that it's likely a strong enough resemblance that if someone recognizes it and the tattoos, an ID can be made."

Even if she's badly burned, the chin ought to be close, right?

I'm always amazed when someone has a number of very identifiable and unique tattoos they go unidentified for any length of time.

There have been a lot of people recognized this way. I guess she hasn't been publicized where anybody who knows her and wasn't involved in her death has seen it. If she left home a while ago, her family might not know she has the tats.

I would think so.

My take from the FACES Lab comment is that they are not confident in the accuracy of the overall "look", but the structure is probably reasonably accurate.

But that's always the case when you have a facial reconstruction based only on a skull. (although I don't know how much flesh remained on the charred remains. - Probably very little from which they could derive a sense of her overall look.)

Based on the UID's photo and stats, I've come up with some possible matches. I went a little younger on the age range.

generally speaking, the problem with trying to match these girls to this UID is the sheer volume of ink the UID had. some of these girls had some ink but I find it hard to believe that girls who are basically runaways would be able to come up with the money to have extensive tattoo jobs done in a very short time before the UID was found dead.

The UID's tattoos are not very high quality. In fact, some of them look like she could have done them herself -- and they all look like they're by the same artist. Maybe she lived with a tattoo artist.

The girls around here will sometimes trade sex for ink.
