she had just moved there - did she know this guy? Was the dog rescued? Too early for answers, but this just leaves a bad bad taste...

The dog knows...

It was reported Mike's mom said he was a good swimmer, hopefully Sadie is also!!!!

ETA: Snipped...
...The man's mother lives in Florida and said she had not been notified by authorities that her son had been missing or that he had been found. The woman described her son as a "good swimmer," and said he is "always with his dog."

"I'm amazed that she stayed in the boat and didn't jump in after him," the man's mother said about the dog.

I guess the mast snapped off. How does that happen?

Coast Guard searches Lake Pontchartrain for missing Baton Rouge woman

Snipped...
...Members of the gym where Sadie used to work out are holding a vigil for her Monday evening as the Coast Guard continues their search.

"It may seem strange to some, but we are going to do REFIT first at 5:30. I think Sadie would want us to that in her honor. That's our connection to her," said one of Sadie's friends, Claire.

The vigil will be held at Southern Oaks Athletic Club, located at 15253 Shenandoah Ave. in Baton Rouge, when the exercise class ends around 6:15 or 6:30 p.m.

I don't like the sound of this at all. He survived but she didn't? My mind is going to only one place.

I don't want to jump to conclusions but it doesn't pass the smell test at this point.

I guess the mast snapped off. How does that happen?
High winds and a weak shroud adjuster on the mast, or catching it going under a bridge (don't know if there are bridges on the lake though). I didn't see any severe weather in the area in the hours before the boat was spotted unmanned though so I'm pretty puzzled on this one.

What bugs me the most is the dog. I don’t know any that can swim and are so close to their owners (like the dog apparently was) that wouldn’t also jump in after them. I wonder what kind of dog it was? Also, curious to know if the dog was possibly tethered to the boat? That would be interesting.

Missing woman in Lake Pontchartrain now being investigated as homicide

According to NOPD, they are now investigating Sadie Thibodeaux's disappearance as a homicide.

She was a passenger on a boat with Michael Lee Farley, 43. Coast Guard Station New Orleans rescued Farley at 7:03 a.m. Monday.

NOPD has not confirmed if there was foul play. A homicide is defined as a killing of one human being by another. A homicide is not synonymous with a murder.

NOPD confirmed that Farley and Thibodeaux were dating.

According to NOPD, Lee has been cooperative and has been released from custody.

That's interesting they are considering it a homicide as opposed to accident.

'Terrible accident' or homicide possible as search for missing woman in Lake Pontchartrain continues

Police have processed the boat at the center of the case, as well as other vehicles involved, said Commander Jeffrey Walls, who is in charge of police that patrol along the lake. They are also checking location data for the vehicles and cellphone records as they try to determine how Thibodeaux went missing, Walls said.

"This could be a horrible accident or a crime," Walls said. "That’s why we’re processing and taking our time so we do the best we can for Sadie."

Thibodeaux's sister, Nikki Thibodeaux-Dowden of Baton Rouge, recently moved from the capital to New Orleans for work. Thibodeaux-Dowden said her sister had been out on the boat before with Farley, who owns the vessel.

I wonder how they both ended up in the water.
