Silver Alert issued in search baby missing from Indianapolis

IMPD said they are looking for Lawrence Whitsitt and a 3-month-old child.

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis police have asked for help from the public in their search for a missing child and a non-custodial parent.

The search was upgraded to a Silver Alert early Wednesday morning.
IMPD said Tuesday they are looking for Lawrence Whitsitt, 20, and a 3-month-old child.

Whitsitt is driving a silver 2012 GMC Terrain with Indiana license plate 116RMK. He may be armed with a handgun, police said.

La’Lani Peaches, a 3 month old female, is 1 foot 6 inches tall, weighs 11 pounds, and has brown hair with brown eyes

Whitsitt is 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighs 144 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes.

They were last seen Tuesday in the 1300 block of West 75th Street.

I wonder why there isn't an Amber Alert. There is a vehicle description and the father is believed to be armed.

These two videos have comments by La'Lani's maternal grandmother. She is very afraid that the baby is in danger of being harmed, and she can't understand why there isn't an Amber Alert.

She said that her daughter was in an abusive relationship with the baby's father for three years. She finally left and made arrangements to move into a shelter for women who are victims of DV. He kept the baby overnight and wouldn't let the mother take her when she arrived to pick her up. There was an altercation, and he left with the baby.

The mother did not know him as "Lawrence Whitsitt." She has always known him as "Larry Peaches" and the name "Larry Peaches" is shown as the father's name on La'Lani's birth certificate. The grandmother said that the police apparently found out his true identity through his police record.

A WTHR reporter contacted Indianapolis Metro Police and Indiana State Police to ask why an Amber Alert can't be issued, and each agency referred him to the other agency. Neither answered his question.

Great news! The baby has been safely located.

After I posted the two videos I went to the Indianapolis police FB page and saw the update.

The 3-month-old child has been safely located and is in DCS custody. Lawrence Whitsitt is in police custody.

Detectives want to thank the community for their assistance in this case. There is no further information at this time.
