Landfill Search

FWIW . . . Mormon religion encourages members to "Bear their Testamony" to the other members of the Ward or Congregation. Monthly they have "Fast and Testamony" meeting on Sunday @ church where they fast 2 meals and members may chose to confess their belief in the: (Lord, the LDS church, Holy Spirit, etc) publically. Much like some funerals where people are encouraged to come up and tell a personal story, people in the crowd wait quietly to see if someone takes the podium. They may chose to say something (or not).

A "Testament" in the LDS religion is pronouncement of a belief. I believe both posts #32 & #33 above from Mysteryview and MsFacetious are true for Josh. I think he wrote his own "testament".

BBM and ITA. With the LDS church involved, there are many reasons for a testament. Personally, I believe it's just something positive he said in church he didn't want his dad to read since his dad hated the LDS church so much.

The map of Utah that they found in the landfill. Do you think that this will be a red herring, or will there be something on it that will help to find Susan?

I guess it depends on if there are any marks on the map over certain areas. Maybe even just the dot from a pen if someone placed a pen down to point to a location he was contemplating going to. We certainly need a big break in this case. But sometimes the small ones add up to a big one.

I'm hoping there's something that's a clue on that map!

They are reporting that the "testament" found was actually just a Mormon scripture book with JP's name in it.

I think the whole trip to the landfill is a red herring, if JP had things he wanted to get rid of why not just take them to the house and burn them up? I think he knew LE would have to sort through all kinds of trash to see what he threw away and it is probably all just worthless junk or things that make a statement about JP. Like his "testament". Like an unmarked map of Utah...

If JP had valuable information he wanted to share with LE he could have left it at the storage unit or even dropped it in the mail late on Saturday, early Sunday. It's a game to JP - I wonder if he had talked to SP about all this before his arrest, because JP just wasn't all that smart to come up with all this by himself. He had help and this stuff sounds like it would be right up SP alley.

Yes, I wonder about all this as well. Why take some stuff to the landfill and not others? Why donate some of the kids toys and leave some behind in the storage unit and house? Why donate books labeled with him and Susan's address on them and take others to the landfill? Leaving that comforter in the storage unit sure makes me think Josh was playing a game. And it really does sound like something his dad would come up with.

I tend to think that the comforter is a red herring as well. He wanted LE and the public to get all excited that we finally have "proof". JP and SP enjoyed playing games with everyone. They played with emotions. JP was actually smart enough to fool people - which is scary. I have heard people look at him and say, "he could be my next door neighbor."

Personally, I have though he looked evil from the first day Susan went missing. I have thought that his snarl was indicative that he thought he was better - smarter - than others. I think that SP was a puppetmaster, but JP was a willing and able student that took good notes.

I don't know why Josh dumped papers in a landfill when he was planning on burning up the house with everyone in it. Why didn't he just burn the papers too? Strange.

Which is why I found it so strange that he showed up to dump anything at the landfill on a busy day. I'm still wondering if it was actually told to someone that he had been there, told by him. He was really thinking ahead. And about that comforter, I'm confused as well.
