Lauryn was last seen in Memphis, Tennessee. Her mother said that on September 7, 2010, she handed Lauryn over to an unknown woman. Lauryn's mother was charged with aggravated child neglect and endangerment based on her story of giving Lauryn to a stranger. Cadaver dogs were later reported to have hit at her mother's home. Authorities say they can't confirm whether Lauryn was actually handed over to a stranger, or if she came to harm in another way.
