Lawmaker skinny-dipped on Israel trip

I never assumed that he was bothering or hassling the daughter- I just didn't like to think of a child exposed to that. If she's 21, then no big deal.
Although when I was a 21 year old free spirit, I would have been mortified to see a naked man while in the company of my parents, especially if he was one of my father's colleagues!

Who knows if she even ever saw him naked or even knew he was naked. I saw the picture of where they were swimming. It was a huge swath of the beach they were swimming in. They were not close to each other if they didn't want to be. It was dark. The ocean is not clear water. She probably never saw a thing.

BBM

That is the crux of this for me, it is a colleague's daughter. Would he want someone to do that in front of his daughter?

How do we even know if it was in front of the daughter? It is a big beach, and it is dark. He might have stayed very far away from her and she may not have ever noticed him at all. You cannot see what someone is wearing in the ocean at night.

The human body is not obscene - some are pretty ugly but not obscene.:worms:

LOL, totally agree, but a certain degree of decorum is expected from someone in his position. However, the saying when in Rome do as the Romans do comes to mind. If skinny dipping in this particular body of water is what the locals do then sure, no problem. If it was a split decision made in a drunken state then it shouldn't have happened and he should be apologizing to both those he represents and those who sponsored the trip.

But they're going to be outraged and no amount of common sense is going to spoil it for them. They've been waiting for a long time to get a good outrage going and it feels sooooo good. They don't care what you say .......they're OUTRAGED and self righteous and a little disappointed that a prostitute wasn't involved so they could be even more outraged.

Personally I'm not outraged, but amused and mildly surprised that a republican man would let loose enough to skinny dip anywhere :D

Sounds as though the member of Congress was drunk while skinnydipping in the Sea of Gallilee. Disgusting, juvenile and inappropriate behavior for members of Congress on a state visit to a foreign country.

This guy needs to resign and the others in the party need to be censured.

God what a bunch of prudes people are..........

I think we have a little bit more to worry about than this man taking a late night swim in another country ONE YEAR AGO.

Selective faux rage.

Members of Congress visiting foreign countries should follow proper decorum, particularly when the country they're visiting has been responsible for pushing the US into becoming engaged in multiple, trillion dollar wars in the ME. The tens of thousands of US servicemen & women who have lost their lives in these unnecessary wars deserve, not to mention the US taxpayers who have funded them, deserved political leaders with better sense.

Our country is now being pushed to enter into another costly, ill-conceived invasion of a ME country by this same ally. Americans deserve to be represented by members of Congress who have enough sense to focus on ways to avoid another costly, unnecessary war instead of getting drunk and engaging in frat boy pranks.

Oh, so this is an anti-Israeli thing then?

There is always another shoe. Sometimes it is fun to wait a bit to drop it. :) Apparently this isn't Yoder's first 'alcohol' rodeo.

On Monday, Yoder campaign manager Travis Smith said the GOP candidate pled guilty in Douglas County District Court to one count of refusing to take the preliminary breath test when requested by a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper at 2:31 a.m. Feb. 8, 2009. The charge reflected belief of Douglas County prosecutors that Yoder obstructed a DUI investigation.

I agree, it is time to take care of people in THIS country, instead of funding wars in the Middle East. We are feeling the economic ravages of Bush's Follies, we don't need more dollars being drained from here. IMHO

Politico’s skinny-dipping story: Quite a reach

The person familiar with the investigation said the FBI came across details of the swimming incident while examining the Israel trip and a trip [New York] Rep. [Michael] Grimm made afterward to Cyprus, but that the swimming incident wasn’t relevant to the probe.

Numerous congressional ethics-law experts interviewed Monday said the FBI does not care if lawmakers swim naked and that the investigation must be a matter under the agency’s jurisdiction. “Last time I checked, skinny dipping anywhere, including a foreign country, is not a federal crime,” said Jan Baran, head of the election law group at Wiley Rein LLP.

Spare me with the anti Israel theme.

I don't play that.
