LE Found Abandoned Car in the Woods

Off Topic: I have to disagree with it being helpful in this case for LE to be so tightlipped. The information released on the other case engaged the public at large and the response was overwhelming. In this case, the information isn't nearly enough and it could cost them in the search.

SATSUMA, FL -- As day nine of the search for Haleigh Cummings comes to a close, candles still burn, tips continue to come in, and family members say they are left with even more questions.
"Nobody can make up their mind on what she was wearing, who was at home with her, where anybody was that night. It's unbelievable!" says Marie Griffis, Haleigh's maternal grandmother.
Griffis says it's hard to know what to believe. She just wants the truth.
"There are just so many lies going around," says Griffis.
Investigators aren't saying much when answering questions about possible leads, including talk about examining a particular vehicle as evidence.
"It was processed for evidence, but we're not going to get into that, but it was processed by FDLE," says Detective Dominick Pape with FDLE

Sounds like maybe the grandmother is starting to not be able to pretend that she believes poor innocent little Misty anymore...just my take on the quote.

It does make me wonder and worry though, all these things found in the woods, and yet no Haleigh. This isn't a suburban area. If someone really wanted to hide a body in this area, it's going to stay hidden for a long time. I had a lot of faith with Caylee that we would have either a live child or a body, given enough time. I have no such hopes in this case and that worries me.
I'm starting to see a lot of evidence in this case that someone has been hiding out and watching a lot. We have this vehicle, we have some of the odd items found in the woods near the trailer.
If this was a stranger abduction, it was planned carefully. I don't like that.
Organized, careful offenders are always harder to catch, let alone prosecute.
Complete MOO.

That's what i think, somebody made a shelter out of a rusted junk car out there

Could be. You would think LE would have put a photo of the car on TV news for tips, if it was of value to finding Kaleigh. But, I forgot, we're not getting anything released yet.

I just have to say regardless of the reasoning behind it, I am actually proud of LE in this case. Unlike with Caylee, we aren't hearing everything...which is the way it should. I am glad that they seem to have learned from the HUGE mistakes made in Caylee's case and are playing this one close to the vest.
Way to go new sheriff whose name I have already forgotten.

I agree with you about this case. It helps to narrow down reliable tips, because not everyone is privy to the info.

OCSO ran up against the Sunshine Law which was responsible for the release of the info. With the circumstances of the arrest, the documents could be sought. I don't personally feel that, in and of itself, was a mistake. I think she would have been considered a flight risk.

ITA...The only reason that makes sense, to me anyway, is that they know it's not an "abduction", they know who is responsible and they are waiting for them to hang themselves. The info that they put out is way to "generic". Then they throw out a couple of specific things, which appears to try and up the pressure. moo.

ETA...And we have the statement of the Sheriff that he's is keeping it listed as an abduction because "we get more bang for the buck"....that struck me as strange.

Must agree with you on this....LE knows most of the story by now. They're throwing a few crumbs out to shake people up so they start turning on each other & will tell all they know. I think the bang is about to come soon!!!!

I also found this interesting:

"Deputies swarm her neighborhood and take note of the railroad tracks. Dispatch informs them a train just passed through."
http://tinyurl.com/brxwdp

Where was that train going? If someone took Haleigh, they could have abandoned the car and hopped on that train! This case is SO frustrating. I agree that LE should keep some details close to the vest, but at the same time with so little information, people may not be seeing things that are significant and realizing that they should call LE. For instance, the two men I saw walking along the side of the road in Augusta, Georgia on this past Tuesday. One of them looked a lot like Chad Reynolds, and he was holding the hand of a little girl that was Haleigh's age, the other guy was a bit older, and looked like Robert Plant from Led Zepplin when he had shoulder length hair - and he was wearing a backpack, and holding the hand of a smaller child that was a little boy. It just looked out of place and odd, the way they were walking seemed "tense" and hurried. I called the tip line yesterday and was told that the computer was down right then. They acted like they didn't want to take the information. It was probably nothing......but who is to say that CR and another SO are travelling up the East Coast? Remember Elizabeth Smart???

If the tipline was having issues, call NCMEC, 1800THELOST, those people are amazing.

I imagine that LE is doing something like they did with the Caylee Anthony case, where they are letting the family and friends make statements, and build up their "story" in detail and with conviction. Then, LE will unload whatever evidence they have so that the story just is blown out of the water. Now, what actually happened or is happening is really up for grabs at this point.

This case perplexing. We just don't have the information we usually get right off the bat from LE that gives us something to work with. Then when we do get something - an abandoned car found during the searches - no other details like make, model, etc. Does it look like it's only been there a couple of days, or a couple of weeks or months? No details.

I sense that LE sees a very volatile situation here and they're proceeding accordingly. In most cases LE would be non stop about getting the info out there so that the public could be looking for the missing child.

Something's wrong here. JMO.

I think something is very wrong here also. This is just strange all the way around, IMO.

The media, fortunately, is still showing her photo on TV. But if they dont get some new information soon, I'm afraid interest will start to fade. They can't keep having shows with nothing new to report.

Maybe it's an abandoned van where folks gather and do drugs..ie Misty..so she wraps up in a blanket for warmth, leaves the door unlocked and goes out to do drugs, comes back someone has taken Haleigh? Or worse, makes me sick to my stomach to say this, sells Haleigh for the drugs. We need to find this baby doll now. This whole neighborhood scares me, including family members.

LE more than likely know that all these relatives and other mentioned people are very transient and can disappear very easily. They may be keeping it low key so as not to spook someone.

I just do not understand how someone can come into a home at night and take a child with nobody knowing it. I pray they find her and she is ok.

I find it very strange that LE has had Misty into the office to question and take so many ploygraphs. Why would ANYONE be questioned that much unless LE does not beleive her.

I have to agree with you SS. I think it is a huge mistake. People don't even know what to look for. People might have seen something but do not think it is anything important therefore they do not call LE.Huge mistake IMHO.

Polly, I know what you mean. But, it happens.

Abandonned car in the woods. Was it a working auto or a rust bucket that was dumped there because the owner didn't bother to tow it away?

It seems impossible but we know it does happen. The parents of Sabrina Aisenberg, Jessica Lundsford, Polly Klaas & Elizabeth Smart didn't hear anything. These days we parents keep very close eyes on our children. We walk them to school or wait with them at the bust stop, supervise them at the park, not allow them to play in front yards, etc. Creeping into a home and snatching a child from their bed while the parents are sleeping seems to be becoming the MO of child preditors.
