My bad. I was thinking during the marriage.
Like if the car is in his name and you drive off in it he can't report it stolen because it's marital property.

rsbm: he can't- if the car was bought during the marriage.

Marital property includes anything that was purchased or acquired from the day you got married until the day you filed the petition for divorce. This includes your car, that necklace you gave your spouse last Christmas (if you bought it with marital funds), even the 401(k) that you've been contributing to since you got a great new job. It doesn't matter if these assets are held solely in your name or jointly.

Leanna would have done well if she divorced him, imo. A man we know cheated on his wife. She separated from him here in GA, and had him arrested for misdemeanor adultery (she had proof) She filed for divorce, and he was sleeping in his truck or at friends for quite awhile afterwards...She took him to the cleaners

I think it is all about for control for j, now imo I think LH should ask her attny what can be legally done to take back the responsibility and handling of the H money. I sure hope she has her own bank accts. because imo this BIL thing stinks to high heaven.

what is jh hiding? 🤬🤬🤬🤬 sites? are they free? gambling? whatis he keeping /hiding from his wife?

I don't know how Ross legally gave his brother control.

Georgia Marital Property Law:

Everything with exchangeable value or anything that goes to makeup a person's wealth: every interest, estate, obligation, right. Anything that you own or that generates income is considered by the law under the category of property:

Your car, your furniture, money in bank accounts, retirement plans, even a business or a profession is property. In a divorce action, property also means what you partially own and owe money on; it includes your debts.

The law in Georgia, views marriage as a relationship between partners, taking into account the monetary and non-monetary contributions of each spouse to the family unit. Even if one of the partners never earned one dollar, that partner is considered to have contributed to the family's property (or wealth) and has rights to a percentage of that property.

What would happen if LeAnna stopped depositing her income into the joint account? If she opened an account in her name, would bil still control it?

I believe the trip was probably one that included Memorial Day weekend--their trip to AL was said to have been 2 weeks before Cooper's death.

Father's Day was 3 days before Cooper's death. :( It was the same Sunday, apparently, that the landlord was speaking to RH about their house-hunting.

Interesting. RH and LH's wedding anniversary was May 27th, the Tuesday after Memorial Day. Did they not spend it together?

Aww, I learned about Miss. and Mrs. in first grade.
My grandmother was a teacher until she got pregnant and they made her quit. She was allowed to be married, but not pregnant.
I can't see LH using Ms.
Ms. was not an option in my religious upbringing.
It wasn't "acceptable"

I would hope LH has the good upbringing to know she would NEVER refer to herself with a title! Other people give you titles, you don't give one to yourself, though she could tell her attorney she prefers Mrs.

Miss and Mrs. are appropriate in formal social settings where everyone knows the others marital status, but in business Ms. is standard since the marital status is typically unknown. Another reason it is more appropriate in the business world is that one can address a package or letter to Ms. Jane Doe but technically if she is married you cannot say Mrs. Jane Doe (she is not married to herself) it would have to be Mrs. John Doe when adding a first name which would be too weird and hard to keep up with in a business setting.

Oops...my bad. Her trip was approx 2.5 weeks before Cooper's death. That would be at the end of May or so (I was thinking Mem Day was the last weekend in May; it wasn't.) Thanks for catching that!

It sounds to me like it.
Why would he not give them to LH?
Was he afraid she wouldn't use the $ to bail him out after LE found all his internet activity?

All posts are MOO.

Maybe JRH turned their finances over to his brother because he believed LH could also be arrested?

I think

a) this was a preemptive attempt by RH to maintain his own control over the finances via his brother and keep his wife, who quite frankly has every right to be considering divorce and throwing him to the wolves, from easily accessing the accounts that RH had sole control over prior to his incarceration.

or

b) LH also agreed to this turnover, in which case, she either

1) concerned she too will soon be incarcerated and without access to the finances

or

2) she is really really subservient to RH's wishes and is very very unwise

I'm wondering what she did with the dog?

Did she take it with her when she left the state?

I have to wonder if LH hiring her own attorney came before or after this move because quiet frankly I cannot imagine her attorney ever advising she go along with the finance turnover (unless as stated above there is reason to believe that she too will soon be unable to access them anyway)

Boy I wish we knew the sequence of events. Could go far i giving us an idea of her current state of mind in regards to her marriage and her husband.

What income? Didn't she lose her job?

did they have a dog? I thought that was all snarky stuff in reference to the dog in hot car searches. I don't think I ever saw that they currently have a pet?

she quit her job as it was impossible to work under the scrutiny per her attorney.

I remember Gramps walking a dog (their dog?) outside RH's condo and saying he couldn't comment.
