On the 24th April 2008, Leanne Sleba died after being shot in the back by her husband of 13 years, Geoffrey Sleba.

Geoffrey maintains that it was accidental, and that he’d accidentally discharged the firearm after a snake slithered over his foot. A coronial inquest identified several major issues with his story, namely the behaviour of snakes at that time of year, as well as the gun story, and ultimately left the finding ‘open’. Several years later Geoffrey was convicted and sentenced for a hit and run incident where he fled the scene after hitting and killing a cyclist with this truck.
