The loss of Prince, and how we as a culture mourn the death of our most celebrated performers says a lot about us

It usually starts with a report from TMZ that we all hope is false. It’s just TMZ, right? But it’s time we start learning TMZ is rarely wrong in these instances.

Hopeful denial then gives way to begrudging acceptance as more news reports roll in. Then come the flood of tributes and remembrances. It’s a hyper-speed version of the seven stages of grief, remixed for our digital age.

The news of Prince’s death hit with a wallop early Thursday afternoon, casting a purple haze over the week that we’re still living inside. This one hurt, and it’s going to continue to hurt. Prince was a titan, and he wasn’t supposed to go this early...

All the purple lights around the world in places is amazing. HOw do they do it so fast? I wonder.

Which as the article states would means about 5 years from now.

Monuments have installed sophisticated lighting. I think this started happening a lot more after New York's remembrance of the 911 tragedy with the two beams of light that extend to infinity at the World Trade Center site every September since 2001. - Since then it seems to have become a way to express sorrow, celebration, and remembrance collectively across the globe which is then transmitted instantaneously though all of the evolving forms of media. It is a spectacular and grand collective gesture.

Especially for the purple one! I don't know of anyone else in modern times who associated themselves with a special color like Prince did...

CNN: The remains of Prince were cremated, the publicist for the late musician, Yvette Noel-Schure, said Saturday, adding that "their final storage will remain private."

Family, friends and fellow musicians gathered Saturday, Noel-Schure said, for a private memorial service for the music icon, who died Thursday at his home in Minneapolis.

The only tribute that I like so far. I really do not care to hear anyone else try to sing Purple Rain, while I like Adam Levine ...it was out of his jonre

This guy is mainly instrumental Violin.

I was totally prepared to not like Levines rendition at all...but I liked it alot
