Letter from Baghdad

We feel the same here in Australia as I am sure the UK do to, we have soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, to name a few, we just had a Australian soldier brought home in a coffin, he was the father of two daughters, his name is David Pearce and is 41 years old. It makes me sad that the family of David have to go through probably the hardest time of their lives. I believe all our soldiers should come home, they are fighting a war imo that should not be fought.
I pray for every soldier who is fighting, and I hope they can be reunited with their families.

I can understand your thoughts, but PLEASE limit your comments on this thread to our soldiers and not your opinion about the war. I'd at least like a safe place for our families to come and share without having to deal with this.

I was just trying to say that there are soldiers from other countries working along side the soldiers from your country whom should also be recognised.

I understand. I'm sure they appreciate the soldiers from other countries very much and I agree they should ALL be recognized. Its a thankless job and I hope everyone gets to return home very, very soon.

Thanks for an excellent post, Angellique. Most of us have no idea, completely, of what they are going through over there - and some of the horrors.

I have a friend who's son is there, and it was only after knowing her and meeting her son that I realized, "My gosh, they go a week w/out a shower". They SLEEP VERY LITTLE when on their "duty", or whatever, if they go to sleep it may mean death for themselves or their buddies. Having an IED explode nearby can be a common occurrence.

They sleep in their HUMVEE; wow how comfortable.

I pray for the day when most of them will come home; hopefully for a long time.

My husband has been in the Navy 19 years.As of now his retirement date was set for Sept.3 2008.He will be leaving for 3-4 weeks of training in two weeks and then he will be sent to Iraq.He just got his requested extension to service approved.So now thats one thing checked off the worry list.He will have some 6 months to help get a job set up before he retires. This is a new experience for us.We are use to the dangers he faces while underway working on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier ect.Now they have switched it up on us :doh: .


Shazza,I understand where you are coming from.You are very correct.All the men and women from the USA and differnet countries who are also putting their life on the line have my prayers and thoughts everyday.I am proud of their courage and so very thankful of how brave they are.

They do more then just sleep in the HUMVEE lol My son enlightened me just yesturday ......

He is a gunner and he said when on duty they cannont dismount for any reason.... we were talking about them eating alot of watermelon.... I said I bet they had to stop alot after eating alot of watermelon and thats when he explained to me a few things I really didnt need to hear lol

My 20 year old nephew has been in Baghdad since March.

His notes and letters and MySpace messages to us have been filled with death. He is a very angry young man right now, and full of despair. He's going to need some serious counseling when he comes home.

He is still hoping he gets to come back to the States before the holidays as he has been told. He'll have a break here, then go back for another tour. I just don't know how he will do emotionally when its time to go back.

He is at a checkpoint station in Baghdad, where there is a lot of suicide missions by car. He hears the mortar bombs and gun fire all day and all night.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers, and I will keep all of yours in mine, as I have for every soldier from all nations fighting for freedom since this began.

On the same subject, We just received a call from my son, now in Iraq, and he will BE HOME ON WEDNESDAY!!!! TO GOD BE THE GLORY.

Well lets see, the first thing he will want to do when he gets home, he was married two months before he left, so I'd say his first choice won't be to spend time with me!!!

Just yesterday, one of the ladies at work asked me did I have any zanex. I said yes I did, she said, "Good, now take one, You are absolutely girating!"
Jeanna, you are right, I am about to come totally unglued.

This has been a long, long year. I am so thankful that he is safe physically, I just pray he is sound mentally and emotionally.

I spoke with him this past Saturday and he said that he is angry at everything. He did say that when he gets home that if he still is feeling this way that he will certainly get professional help.

I sure hope they offer some kind of services where he can talk about it, and get some meaningful counseling.

You are welcome Shazza I posted videos that showed where the soldiers were having a bit of fun for a change.Working 18-20 hours a day days , days at a time and to see and hear what they go through.,reading it in the newspapers,tv news ect.

I like going to these videos and seeing them have a bit of fun,to see them smile.
