Maybe there’s details I’m not aware of that would change the complexion of this one, but I find the story about the circumstances of his disappearance pretty strange.

Has this info been reported anywhere?
I remember seeing something in local Kentish online press last month. Will try and find the article.

I live about 12 miles away from where the incident happened.

I'm surprised if he was in a farmer's field that he hasn't yet been discovered. September/October is harvest season, and a body would've been seen by a farmer....or at least detected by the tractor/combine/farm equipment if his remains were run over.

Kent Police did say in an article a while back there were details surrounding the case they were not releasing to the public. Which makes me think there are hidden depths somewhere. It's not a simple crash, walk off, etc. that it appears on paper.

The latest news links, (5 days ago) all local sources. Unless connected with the Graham family or the car crash, it's my belief that it's unlikely that anyone knows much more than that which can be gleaned form the Facebook page.

Snipped by me for focus.

I think the likelihood, sadly, is that Liam has ended up in a ditch, watercourse or wooded area, where (as we have seen time and time again) a body may remain undetected for quite some length of time.

It was really quite strange that there was no mention of a crash until several days after it had happened. I'm not even sure if the police have ever publicly mentioned the crash, to be honest, but I think we can accept that it DID happen.

I think sadly this is the most likely however <modsnip> theres certainly a lot that doesn't quite add up but I think we won't know until he is found. Seems police are keeping a lot close to their chests. Must be heartbreaking for his loved ones I just hope they find him soon. <modsnip>

A 22-year-old man who has been missing for more than three months has been found dead, his family have confirmed.

Liam Graham, from Medway, was last seen walking away from a car accident in a video taken in the early hours of Saturday, July 22, in Stoke Road, between Lower Stoke and Hoo.

In a post on the family’s Search for Liam social media page Liam’s mum Joanne Graham said: “I just wanted to let everyone know that Liam has been found. Sadly Liam has passed.

“I just wanted to thank everyone for their help and support but please can everyone respect that me and my family need our time to process this and be together.”

A body recovered in The Netherlands has been identified as that belonging to a missing man from #Medway.

Liam Graham, 22, was reported missing on Saturday 22 July 2023, from Lower Stoke. Officers carried out extensive searches to find him over several weeks but were unable to locate him.

On Monday 6 November Kent Police was contacted by the Dutch authorities stating they had recovered the body of a man. On the following day, it was confirmed the body was that of Mr Graham.

His family have since been informed and Kent Police is continuing to work with colleagues in The Netherlands to establish the circumstances surrounding his death.

The Netherlands?! How did he get there? I wonder if there is more to this story...

Yeah, I'm the the US and geography is probably one of my weakest areas but a quick search tells me this is not somewhere he stumbled to after the accident, to put it mildly. Wow, what happened Liam... so sad for your family...

ETA: found in water... looking at the maps, he could have stumbled into the water and floated this way, ugh...

Quickest and most direct way I can think of is Eurostar from London to Amsterdam, where his body was found. Of course he'd have to get to London St. Pancras International first, and the Eurostar is hardly cheap.
Or:
  • a combination of lesser trains from the UK to Amsterdam Centraal from a more convenient station
  • a flight from Heathrow or Gatwick to Schiphol, though he'd have to get to LHR or LGW and from AMS as well.
These are, IMHO, the most convenient. There are other, longer and more convoluted means (such as those including ferries) I've decided not to go into.
Regardless of what transport he used to get there, he will have been on multiple cameras.

I didn't mean literally how he got there, I meant he was last seen in only shorts and a top, leaving a crash site, possibly with injuries, in Kent. Then next... found dead in another country.

I believe the current would’ve taken him there. It naturally flows from the Hoo island bit to The Netherlands, and we’ve had bad storms, flooding, so much rain. I was part of the searches and there was no sign of him in that area, over multiple searches - drones, binoculars, dogs, the lot. He didn’t have a wallet or passport (I’m sure,) so he couldn’t have travelled there legally. Lots of lorries go through Grain, so it’s possible he could’ve hopped on one.

I believe he fell/went in the water close to the Amazon building on the island. It’s very marshy and boggy at low tide but can be deep at high. Even I was surprised by how quickly it changed. It’s been a few months… plenty of time to get to The Netherlands.

My heart breaks for Liam’s family, and the other searchers. Many thousands helped.

May you rest in peace, Liam.
May your family finally find peace too.

Edited by me, missed out a word.

He didn’t have his wallet (it was later found in a field,) and I’m fairly certain it was confirmed that he didn’t have a passport either. Also, travel would’ve flagged the authorities. The Channel current would’ve taken him that way if he went in the water.

Looks like you're right about the currents. I modified this map on Wikimedia Commons (in German, but the current arrows should obviate any need for translation):
North_Sea_Currents_mod.png

His body would then have to have passed through the North Sea Canal locks at IJmuiden (or, alternatively, the Wadden Sea, the IJsselmeer and the Markermeer, all to the north and each separated by sluice gates) to reach the IJ and the massive canal system of Amsterdam. The North Sea Canal route is the most likely route his body took IMO, but I felt I should show the other route, however improbable it seems.

It's very hard to believe his body went all the way from the UK into the canal circles in the mids of the city of Amsterdam. The "web" of canals shown on a map:

The other picture shows the relevant waterways in the Netherlands. The red dot on the picture is approx. de Keizergracht.

The big question is: how on earth did he get there? I'm very curious about the theories of the Dutch police.

I don’t think it’s that hard to believe, but it is quite a way. Amsterdam’s canals do have some currents and are deep. He could have been dragged by something, a boat, etc.

The other option, I suppose, is hopping on a lorry.
