I haven’t seen anything that’s said he was found in Amsterdam. Is that correct? It’s pretty much directly across the channel to the Dutch beaches, so if he ended up in water nearby the crash site, and it’s surrounded by water on 3 sides, it’s not hard to see how his body could drift to the Netherlands.

The body in the Keizersgracht was found on the 7th.

Bystanders called the police around 2:30 this afternoon because they saw a body floating in the water of the Keizersgracht. It had probably been in the water for some time before it surfaced.

On Monday 6 November Kent Police was contacted by the Dutch authorities stating they had recovered the body of a man.

So probably somebody else?

If he was found on the beach in the Netherlands, I totally agree that this is possible.

Whilst I appreciate that numbers tend not to lie and that this looks odd, this in my opinion is human error over the dates, LE or media typo or some sort of miscommunication.
I don't see it as an issue - the apparent sad facts are that the family had been told, the body has been identified, and his mother has posted news of his passing in a Facebook post confirming this to those following this case, which I have seen for myself, and is currently speaking of his repatriation.

Yes, it's not really that important. Rest peacefully Liam. Sincere condolences to family and friends.

Quickest and most direct way I can think of is Eurostar from London to Amsterdam, where his body was found. Of course he'd have to get to London St. Pancras International first, and the Eurostar is hardly cheap.

Or:

• a combination of lesser trains from the UK to Amsterdam Centraal from a more convenient station
• a flight from Heathrow or Gatwick to Schiphol, though he'd have to get to LHR or LGW and from AMS as well.

These are, IMHO, the most convenient. There are other, longer and more convoluted means (such as those including ferries) I've decided not to go into.
Regardless of what transport he used to get there, he will have been on multiple cameras.

This is a sad story with not much publicity.
Frank Mhgongo is a Malawian man living in Ireland. He went to the Netherlands for a holiday on the 27-28 October and was reported missing to police on the 28 October.
A police preliminary report says Mhango was found lifeless in one of the canals of Amsterdam, Netherlands on Tuesday, 7th November, 2023. Frank was found the day after Liam.

Dan Venes was found after going missing in 2021 after a week washed up on a French beach. Dan was last seen in Margate. How long did it take authorities to notify family they had found Dan?
152 days and family were appealing for Dan’s whereabouts during this time. They were waiting on DNA tests that revealed his identity.

Very interesting comparison. I hadn't realised that Dan's body was found after just a week.

By pure coincidence, Liam's mother has just put out a statement on the Search for Liam Facebook page, which includes the following:

"There will be a press release today, so I would like to give you the information first, Liam was found on the 15rh September he was found in the water, there is an ongoing investigation by the Dutch and Kent police. There is no other news has yet. So please don’t ask any questions has I can’t answer them all". (sic)

It looks like the original information we were given (that Liam's family were informed the day after his body was found) was incorrect. I wonder if the press release will answer any other questions. I have to say that I am not at all convinced that his body was found in Amsterdam, despite what the appeal statement says. I wonder if the press release will shed any light on that. I appreciate that the public do not have a right to know the details.

The mother of a 22-year-old man who was found in the Netherlands following a lengthy search has revealed further details surrounding his death.

The remains of a man missing from #Medway were found in the North Sea, officers have confirmed.

Liam Graham, 22, was reported missing on Saturday 22 July 2023, from #LowerStoke. Officers carried out extensive searches to find him over several weeks but were unable to locate him.

On Monday 6 November Kent Police was contacted by the Dutch authorities after the remains of a person were found in the water. On the following day, it was confirmed these remains belonged to Mr Graham.

Detective Inspector Paul Fewtrell said: ‘I have been in touch with the Dutch authorities and they have confirmed that Liam’s remains were found in the North Sea.

‘We are continuing to work with the authorities in Rotterdam, the British Consulate at The Hague and the coroner’s office, to fully understand the circumstances and to make arrangements for repatriation back to the UK. The family is being supported and kept fully updated by specialist officers from Kent Police.’

Liam’s family have released the following statement.

‘Thank you to everyone who has shown us so much support and help throughout the agonising days while Liam was missing. Thank you to everyone who has donated to the GoFundMe page which was set up as a reward for information, but is sadly now being used to bring our Liam home and give him the most beautiful send-off that he deserves.

‘We cannot put into words the utter heartache that as a family we are going through daily, following the devastating news of our Liam’s passing.

‘Liam was the kindest, most caring and loving young man, who was loved very much in return.

‘He was a wonderful son, brother and loving uncle whose memory lives on with us all. We will miss you very much LeeLees.’
