Wouldn't the contacts be ruined if they are in a case without liquid?

Yes. :nods sagely, because a three letter reply won't post:

I left out of LAX(Los Angeles International) this morning. It was really really crowded, but they did a great job of keeping it organized. The lines were long but moving and the security was not that much tighter, just restricted from bringing any liquids.
We got to the airport 2 hours in advance and made it all the way through in 1 hour...even had time for breakfast! Our flight left a little late. scheduled for 9 am and left about 9;30.All in all it looked a lot worse than it was.
we carried on our laptops and ipods, cellphones no probelm. It really was not a bad.

aloha!

New TSA Carry-On Baggage Rules

Effective Thursday, Aug. 10, travelers are no longer allowed to bring the following items on board the airliner:
--All liquids of any kind, including drinks
--Gels
--Lotions and creams, including hand lotion and sunscreen
--Contacts may be brought on board in their cases, but the cases cannot contain liquid.
--Hairspray
--Toothpaste
--Shampoo and conditioner
--Liquid makeup
--Perfume
--Anything else that has a liquid or gel-like consistency.

If you bring any of these items through airport security, TSA agents will confiscate them from your carry-on luggage; however, you may still place them in checked luggage. Some exceptions are granted for passengers traveling with an infant or small child. Baby formula, juice, bottled breast milk and baby food are allowed, but they will be tested by the TSA to ensure they are not explosives. Prescription drugs, insulin and some nonprescription medication are also allowed with proper identification. The new procedures cover all flights, both international and domestic. Currently, laptop computers, cell phones and other electronic devices are allowed, but that is subject to change.

Thanks for this link. My husband travels quite a bit and only takes one carry-on. This is going to inconvenience him greatly. However, if it will help keep our country safer, we must all do it. I myself usually put my prescription medicine and supplements in one of those "Monday - Sunday" pill containers. It sounds like that isn't going to be allowed. I take all sorts of supplements and I don't want to take each and every pill bottle with me!!

ETA: I don't think that you can have a tube of lipstick either. I read in our newspaper that this woman had to throw away $60 worth of lipstick. If that's the case, I guess that you can't even carry a tube of chapstick.

Can I carry on my aerosol hairspray??

...These people will just keep plotting and planning until they find another avenue for success. They won't stop...
That's why our country and other countries have people working full-time to discover these plots. Unfortunately, that's the way of the world. When I was growing up, we had the constant threat of a Russian nuclear attack. In this day and age, it is a constant threat of terrorists. Once we get terrorism under control, there will be some other evil lurking (North Korea and Iran??). Unfortunately, we will never rid the world of the "bad guys." We just have to try to contain them.

I was just thinking this morning that I need to take the lipstick out of my purse as I'm flying to New York City on Monday morning. I have a 6:00AM flight and my husband told me that this is one time I probably will need to be at the airport 2 hours early. He asked if he could take me to the airport the night before so he wouldn't have to get up so early. If looks could kill, lol!

Maybe, he's just not a morning person! I can honestly understand where he is coming from. He will probably have to get up at 3 a.m. to get you there!!

I don't drive or pick up my husband from the airport EVER!! I can even remember times when he took a taxicab to and from because I didn't "want" to drive him. I know...I am mean... :blushing:

You can bring the bottles of formula on if you test drink it in front of TSA first.
Or you could breast feed.
Edited to add: Maybe this will cut down on the screaming babies on flights.
But, can't the gel be hidden in a little baggie either in the baby bottle or on the terrorists' bodies somewhere?

This is making me very scared. I hate to fly. I have a tremendous fear of heights and when we're in the air, I picture the plane falling out of the sky over and over again!

I remember after 9/11, law enforcement wanted to meet with Hollywood writers, etc to brainstorm potential methods of terrorism. Many people scoffed at that...and I thought it was a good idea. I think we all need to put our collective heads together and if we think of something they could do(and CERTAINLY if we notice something peculiar), we should notify authorities. When my creative juices get going I can really think outside the box...and I usually think about a bunch of "what ifs" when I'm on the dang plane!

I managed to leave one of our many bags sitting right on the curb as we pulled away from the airport. We did not realize it was missing until about 2 hours later when we were all settled in our hotel. Traveling with 8 people and 2 cars and lot of luggage it wasn't hard to do.

So here I have left a bag at the airport on one of the most heightened security days ever. I was sure it was going to be considered an abandoned suitcase and I expected to see it on the news surrounded by the bomb squad!
I was almost afraid to go back to the airport and try and retrieve it.

I guess no one was threatened by my bag;it was in the security office waiting for me.

I am flying next week, twice in one day from home to St. Louis and back. All I had planned on taking was my purse and work laptop. SO I guess I will be ok. I dont wear liptstick so there is no problem there.

I really really really need the work laptop so I hope its not a hassle but if it is, I will gladly go thru it.

Maybe someday we won't be allowed to have any luggage at all. We'll have to fly, then go shopping to buy clothes, wear them while we are on vacation/business somewhere then throw them away before we get back on the plane.

Terrorism is only going to get worse.
In the future, air travel will be something you do at your own risk.
I think tourism is going to suffer, people opting to stay within their own countries instead of running all around the world visiting others.
God knows I'm planning an os trip and I haven't even seen all of Oz, maybe I will just do that..

I live in St. Louis. Maybe I will see you one of these days and not even know it! :)

Have fun traveling! Our airport is pretty good about security.

I like to travel with just one suitcase, and I like to carry it on the plane with me and my purse so that I can get on and off quickly without waiting in baggage claim or having my luggage lost.

This is just a small inconvenience, not a big one. I do like those little kiosks you can use to self-check but now I will have to do one closer to a lane with baggage check-in.

I would just leave all my toiletries at home if I could, but I need my three bottles of pro activ for my skin. I can't use the hotel stuff for even a few days. :(

Pro activ is the only stuff that has worked for me.

But again, it's not a big deal. Just a minor inconvenience to not be able to take these on board.

Stupid terrorists!!! :furious:
They ruin everything!!! :slap:

Can you not buy Pro activ wherever you are likely to land?

good luck with your travels. i used to have to fly every week for 3 or so years and i'm glad that's not part of my life now.

i also used to travel just with hand luggage. i'd be hard pressed to only have the clear plastic bag with the basics and would hate to check a laptop - surely they couldn't survive being tossed about by baggage handlers? likewise cameras?

yes, sorry international is much tighter. I'm skimming threads. I'm in Hawaii , flew out of LAX, so I thought it would be a lot tougher than it was.

If they try to take it away from you, tell them you need it to moisturize your situation and preserve your sexy.

So, if you freeze your water before you get on the plane, can you take it? Because that is not a liquid. It's a solid. I want to ask the security officials that!

I think you can buy them in stores now, but I am not sure.
I started buying mine through the mail a few years back because I saw the TV commercials/infomercials.

I am going to Vegas for a convention and these conventions are always in the hotels furthest from civilization!!! :)The ones in February are always in Florida in coco point and are waaaaaay out there. So much fun, though!
:p
They have us pretty well busy from 7am til midnight with meetings, parties, and schmoozing. There's no time for shopping!

However, I guess I could go afew days with the soap from the spa in the hotel. I just like my own stuff :(

Can you not put your toiletries in your checked luggage, or did that change today? You could buy those travel size containers for shampoos, etc that you put your own stuff in. That way, it wouldn't take up a lot of space in your big suitcase(s).
