Living Barbie: cute or disturbing trend?

  • #21
ye,my teenage daughter is obsessed with Anime and everything Japanese so I've known about this fad for many years. She Cos-plays at conventions 4 times a year and makes her own clothes. She normally wears fake lashes and does her make up doll like.
Doesn't bother me one bit.I was pretty goth when I was a teen so every generation has their fads.
As far as sexualisation, please,it takes a man to sexualise anything. We might as well all start wearing Burqas if we worry about sexualisation.IMO our girls should have the freedom to wear what makes them feel pretty and not have to worry about what guys think, because they would think it no matter what anyways.

The eyes look so odd because they're wearing circle lenses. That's what's giving them the corpse stare.
Dakota also makes her eyes look larger by attaching her false lashes to the outside of her eyes.
Personally, I quite like some of the pictures, but they are VERY staged and photoshopped and the girls do not look like this in real life.

These do not look like Porn at all.

I do not personally find them attractive but really don't see what is wrong here. Just the creep factor.

They look like Stepford Children. Kind of creepy..

Goz

yes, thats what they look like. Dakota is cute but looks anorexic.

Doesn't look like barbie to me. But then again I have kids that are anime and manga fans. That's what it looks like to me, but I might be wrong.

Meh, just a fad. (kind of like sailor moon stuff, my kids are now crazy about Tokidoki).

My daughter is also into all things anime, so I've gotten the otaku crash-course, too. :) Rather than Barbie, IMO these girls resemble the ball-jointed dolls or BJDs that are popular in Japan.

V**** appeared on ITV show Daybreak with her mother, where presenter Helen Fospero admitted she would be 'horrified' if her own daughter wanted to dress like a doll, branding it 'not normal'.

Margaret, from London, responded: 'I would be horrified if she came home pregnant, I am not horrified if she is innocent and good girl who likes cute clothes and frills and ribbons.'

'I am absolutely fine with that, her face is already doll-like and if she likes the style I am fine with it, I would be more worried if she came home drunk or smoked.'

I don't think they are cute in any way. Really very creepy and disturbing.
