Looking for any kind of help, advice, or recommendation on tools to use

So, I am not sure if this is the correct thread to post this on but figured I'd just post it and see...

I'm not going to list all details just put simply I am trying to help a distant relative who was wrongfully charged with a crime in Michigan. He had a public defender (low income) that didn't even try to fight. It was rather annoying how much tangible evidence that wasn't subpoenaed to get. Problem is he is a habitual prisoner but for, nothing even close to what this charge was for. I just wanted any resources, steps, websites, anything that will help me. I know he needs to file an appeal firstly, and that he is doing. But how do I find a decent adequate attorney for him? I tried simple Google searches but it didn't really help to much. He has little to no money unfortunately.

Any advice will help, and is appreciated.

Google a contingency fee lawyer. You can also go to your local law school and find out information.
