Hi,
I am here after someone I knew suggested me to seek help here .
I am actually looking for more about a case,
Blackwell v. State, 264 Ga. 517 | Casetext Search + Citator

The section doesn't contain name of the victim or killer (atleast I didn't figure it out) and only from the surname of killer, it's hard to do reverse search.

Even using dates, I didn't find anything similar incidents in news near that time.

Any person who can help me find out more about that case ?
I will be very grateful.

Old genealogist here.

The crime happened in Georgia - what
The crime happened June 6, 1992 - when
The POI was apprehended June 14, 1992 - when
The POI was tried and convicted - September 30, 1993 - another when
The POI's surname is Blackwell

I can't tell where this happened within the state of Georgia.

Search, and you will find newspaper articles here:

GALILEO@UGA Subject Guides: Newspapers at the UGA Libraries: Georgia Newspapers

https://gahistoricnewspapers.galileo.usg.edu/

Library Guides: Newspapers at Georgia Southern: Georgia Historical Newspapers

South Georgia Historic Newspapers Archive – Southwest Georgia Regional Library

June 7, 1992 editions are likely to include reports of the murder, and likely the deceased woman's name. Might take until the 8th or 9th. You might start with the 15th, as you can search for Blackwell's name on that date.

Or, search for news of the conviction and work backwards.

Once you figure out where the crime occurred on June 6, 1992, you can read fewer newspaper articles. You'll know which county Historical Society to contact.

Please let us know what you find!

I searched Georgia inmate records and do not find a "Blackwell" in any State Prison for a murder in 1992/1993. Plenty of Blackwell's just not with a conviction that long ago

Now that's weird about the inmate records. Did Blackwell die before transferred to state custody?

Likely to be articles about an inmate death in a county jail.

@Aston 2017 , do you know where the murder happened? That would help in the search for information.

Partial newspaper listing by county here:

USGenWeb Archives Project: Georgia

Also, what brought you to this appeal?

It looks like the case was appealed to Fulton County Superior Court, so the crime probably happened in Fulton County?

DECIDED OCTOBER 3, 1994.

Murder. Fulton Superior Court. Before Judge Gude, pro hac vice.

Where did you search that? Don't they ask full name to search for inmate?

Probably it's not that famous case, otherwise the appeal will have name Like u suggest I tried looking at the archived newspaper but didn't find anything, atleast on those papers.

@carbuff is right -- I didn't notice the mention of Fulton County. That narrows the search dramatically.

Still interested in learning what brought this case to your attention. Knowing which blanks you'd most like to fill in helps us know what direction to take in seeking information.

Consider calling or emailing the appellate court & ask where you can find the records for the 1993 trial.

Consider contacting Rickey L. Richardson, the attorney who brought the appeal:

Richardson, Rickey L, Attorney at Law P.C. | Business Details | Better Business Bureau® Profile

I did not search the newspapers exhaustively. Not my monkey, not my circus. I'm a genealogist -- we charge for exhaustive searches.

I did look briefly at FindAGrave, looking for interred who passed on June 6, 1992, interred in Fulton County. 119 pages of names, we know the decedent is female, we do not have a birth year but a woman who passes at age 83 is probably not this crime victim (but could be.) Of course we have no idea yet where the decedent is interred. Again, genealogists charge for exhaustive searches.

Let us know what you find, please!

I also searched paroled offenders under the name Blackwell and come up with nothing that would pertain to this matter.

@Aston 2017 no you do not need a full name to search. Find an Offender | GDC

I did a somewhat cursory search of unidentified victims in Georgia and did not find anything to indicate the murder victim remained unidentified. Of course only about a quarter (estimated) of unidentified cases are in the public databases.

There is one woman on the right date, but she fell off an 80-foot bridge, which doesn't match the circumstances in this case.

Great tool for this quest for someone with time, patience, and method! Thanks for the link.

Link doesn't cooperate well, also asks for a first name after finally agreeing to cooperate.

A very interested person could book time on their schedule, and try all 26 letters in order to obtain a likely first name, since the crime & trial dates are known, and only people incarcerated between those date are possibilities. That person will need to re-type the surname & dates each try, the form clears the fields. Worth the time if you're truly interested.

My apologies. Try the first name Randolph.
My insomnia got the best of me last night and I was up for a challenge/way more curious than I should have been at that hour. I used my Newspapers.com subscription and various other legal resources and came up empty.

At this point it is almost a game. 26 letters, how many will it take…. You start with the Wheel of Fortune letters RSTLNE…. First try I found it.

To OP, after significant digging, I was not able to find any details about this case other than it has become precedent cited several times by GASC.
