Now I wouldn't mind going there. My GM says at one time Lebanon was very nice. Like the Mid-East Riviera.

It is sad about Lebanon. I hope the bombing can stop. Or we can help rebuild it or something. We've done such a good job with New Orleans.

You just never know about over there. It's just so volatile. I dated a Lebanese man once. He was a Christian and looked like Tom Selleck. He was very nice and respectful to me. But he had too much hair on his back. LOL He ended up going back there some years ago. I wonder how he is doing sometimes.

Very true - it was the hub of the mediterranean for banking, commerce and society. Very wealthy.

I hadn't even thought about Lebanon in years, but a couple weeks ago I had my hair trimmed by a Lebanese man,and I commented on how I thought it was strange as I never heard of anyone from there around where I live. He said in a neighboring city there are quite a few immigrants. The funny thing is the only thing I think of when I hear of Lebanese is Danny Thomas(Marlo's dad). I'm aging myself. He had a show on TV when I was little and he had on his Uncle Tanouse(sp). I'd rather think of that, than the current situation.
I heard an American woman on TV today. She is stranded in a Christian section of Lebanon, and says it is absolutley beautiful. It looks out on the sea, there is plenty to eat and drink right now. Although she is not feeling any immediate threat, she wants to get out.

Holy crap,Hezbollah bombed Nazerath, killed 3. This is not good. Very holy city for Christians. If they go after Jerusalem, this is going to get worse. Somebody needs to get this under control!

Two of my son's friends are stuck in Lebanon right now. We're praying they get home soon - they are 8 and 12 years old.

So sad.

Evidently the evacuation has been slow. It must be scary, especially if you have small children there with you.

At first the U.S. was going to charge each family for the trip - then I guess they changed their minds.

When you really think about this situation it is more major than we think it is at first glance. We are so conditioned to all that is going on in Iraq and Afghanistan with the bombings, but to have 25,000 American citizens stuck over there with such a slow response time in getting them out is a real problem.

Sure, they have now taken several thousand out, but from what I've heard on CNN all day, there are many who are getting no help from the
US Embassy. Why are they so unorganized, especially in a country that lies next to Israel and that has such a history of trauma?

And can you imagine all the trauma that is going on now in Cyprus? Not enough beds their to accomidate everyone who will come, and I don't know about food and medical, but you'd have to be a real people person to want to be there now! LOL

Scandi,
Sounds like things are finally moving quicker as to getting American citizens out. Anytime the gov't is involved the red tape is ridiculous. I heard today that one of the reasons for the problems is that most of the Embassy had already evacuated and there were very few people working to help others.
I know that I would be complaining if I were over there, but, there was a travel advisory for Lebanon. When people go over to these places, they really do so at their own risk.

What I find amazing is that somehow this is going to get blamed on the current administrations choice to go into Iraq. Although I question whether that was the right choice, what is happening now,has nothing to do with the US policies. When will people wake up?!! This war is about the whole Western way of life vs radical Islamics. The Green Party could be in office and eventually we would get hit. What about Bali, what about London,Spain,India. The world needs to understand this or we will never defeat terrorism. Then the other wack job in Korea will join in just because, and we are in big trouble. The UN is about the most worthless bunch of crooks going. They are half the problem.
The rational people in the world need to ban together and cut the whole middle east off. Take a strong stance. Demand the religious leaders of the supposed peaceful religion speak out!! There aren't 72 virgins waiting in heaven. Murder of others and ones self is not honorable!

Looks like the Israelis are lined up on the border, ready to go into Lebanon to take over some Hezbollah strongholds. I hope not too many Israeli troops will be killed; it is risky.

People want to blame the Israelis for acting so strongly, but remember when you see the pictures of Lebanon - you are looking at the incompetence and inaction of the United Nations

You are looking at the moderate middle eastern countries who chose to turn their heads rather than crack down on terrorist militias developing - namely Hezbollah and Hamas.

You looking at failed Middle East policy of many many years.

Israel is a Democratic State and is doing work for us right now. So I wish them well.
