Timed well with the drop of the podcast (not sure if the 2 are related?).

Interestingly, portions of the movie were filmed on Long Island, along Ocean Parkway and along the North Fork. Looking forward to watching

I just watched it and have mixed feelings, mainly because the film doesn’t really push the fact that these cases remain unsolved. However, I hope it spurs more interest from the public and action from law enforcement.

What is the name of the podcast?

What is the name of the podcast?

LISK - the Long Island Serial Killer. It was just released this week and is incredibly well done. 2 episodes are out so far. It's hosted by Chris Mass and the first 2 episodes focused on Shannan and includes interviews with the driver, her bf Alex, author Robert Kolkler and family members. Definitely recommend!

Thank you, I’ll tune in now!

I watched Lost Girls today & thought they put way too much emphasis on Shannon Gilbert & her mom, instead of making the movie about the GB4, who we definitely know we're murdered by LISK.

Not taking anything away from Shannon's case, because without her going missing, the GB4 & the other victims would still be out there on Gilgo beach.

Imo, Lost Girls movie should have focused on the GB4, & Shannon played a critical part in finding these girls.

Hopefully they make another version that's like the book, & not solely on one character.

I watched Lost Girls yesterday and was brought to tears. I have read the book many times, I was very moved by the distillation of these crimes into the story of Shannan's murder and her family's ordeal. The atmospheric photography and the music, everything, was simple and filled with emotion. May Mari rest in peace with her daughter.

just finished watching it

umm its was ok i think i was expecting something different than what i got when i watched it, even though i had read the book i thought it was going to be just different to how it ended up i guess.. its not bad or good its just how it is maybe thats what they were going for

like another posted said above, i thought we were going to move into the Gilgo beach 4 about halfway through and focus on that but it never really came

the last 5-10 minutes are very sad though, when you see that press conference and the facts we all know it adds a lot of emotion to it, i hope now Mari has passed she has met up with her daughter in the afterlife and got the answers to what happened and they can rest peacefully together

but whatever helps shine light to a wider audience on any of the victims and helps get more action about LISK i am all for it

it troubles me we may never know who LISK was or is and i don't want the word LISK to turn into something like jack the ripper where school kids in 50 years tell stories of a masked man who kills people around long island and its a boogey man tale

we need a face and a name and i hope we find out

I walked away infuriated by the portrayals of the other women. Missy Cann in particular. Missy is not the shy, timid creature this film made her out to be. She is a rock ! And she fiercely advocated for Maureen ! Endless hours of research, gathering the other women to be out front and visible, seeking out Websleuths for help ! Missy is the REAL hero, imo. Is she brash and combative the way Mari was ? No. But she is strong and determined and brave. One of the most inspiring women I have ever had the pleasure to get to know. And this film treated her like she was small and inconsequential.

It made me livid.

I was expecting a little different as well. I thought it would follow the book more and detail each of the girls and their backstories. It would be great if their was an episode for each girl. Ultimately, I just hope LISK is caught or discovered soon.

Good call on the podcast. Did you watch the video clips featuring Michael Pak and Alex Diaz?

MOO, Shannon is a LISK victim, and appropriate attention was placed on her case since he's yet to be apprehended. The killer was brazen enough to sadistically call and threaten Shannon's younger sister on numerous occasions. Who but a serial killer would do something so deviant and heinous? Shannon is also the most recent victim with the most evidence (that we know of at this time). Unless the remains found Sunday in Suffolk County are related, I should say.

Each life taken is equally as precious. And I hope when he's apprehended we see another documentary detailing each of their lives. But given that Shannon's story has so many details and tragedies, I think the focus was a good way to generate a great deal of attention to the LISK case. All MOO.

I get what you’re saying but they really didn’t focus on LISK at all. I was surprised they didn’t mention that he had called some of the victims’ siblings. Many people don’t know about this case or have forgotten. They should have spent a few more minutes on LISK per se and also on the fact that many of his victims are still unidentified. JMO.

Only so much you can do in a movie, however, I do agree with the general sentiment here that this movie placed too much focus on Mari Gilbert. It didn't seem to be the visual representation of the book whatsoever. Introducing the GB4 and covering their disappearances we are looking at a 3 hour film.

I'm glad they are using it to raise awareness, however, they missed the boat on providing an accurate timeline, in particular, that 2 of the 4 on Gilgo disappeared after Shannan. This was a drama, as it was billed to be but I can't say it was worth the wait. I've watched The Killing Season & 48 Hours with people who've never heard of the case and I can tell you those garnered much more interest than this which left much to be desired.

Also, did anyone find it strange they went down the Scalise rabbit hole? They seemed to really be running with his theory and it seemed implied that Hackett is responsible. Perhaps that's just how I interpreted it but the character they casted for him always seemed be the villain and made a number of remarks with a sinister grin, particularly the statement about the OIBA security tapes.

That's not even touching upon the factual discrepancies. Overall, I think they got tunnel vision with this one and missed a huge opportunity to put a spotlight on the case by going all in, this was half baked.

I too was surprised that the calls to Melissa’s sister weren’t mentioned. I first heard about the calls on 48 Hours several years ago and was dumbstruck. My heart broke for the young girl and I couldn’t even begin to imagine being in Lynn Barthelemy’s position with one daughter missing and another being tormented with the phone calls. Those calls alone shine great light on the depths of LISK’s sociopathy and misanthropy.

Also: I will never be convinced that Shannan entered the marsh alone. Now, who was with her-I don’t know-but she was not alone. Further, there’s no way she drowned. None.

I concur

I'm glad they are using it to raise awareness, however, they missed the boat on providing an accurate timeline, She missed the boat on 80% of the case, actually.
I can't say it was worth the wait. I agree; I shut it off about halfway though because I anticipated it would be a lot more thrilling, instead it was so OFF the mark.

Also, did anyone find it strange they went down the Scalise rabbit hole? Yes, that is absolutely ludicrous, I screamed out loud at that one, and Garbus even went so
far as to have Dormer say that Scalise is a conspiracy theorist. LIke the public are really going to understand the crazed psycho that Scalise really is? And how
he spun tales around Mari's ear and then Mari woke up and realized that SHE went down the Scalise rabbit hole, along with Cristen and TruthSpider and Dorothy?

It's not even half baked; it's a ridiculous fairy story because Spota must have sent his goons after Liz and told her how things work on Long Island.

I so agree! This was no drowning!!

Also, I don't think it was covered that I recall, but I've heard the author interviewed. He claims that there are 10 bodies (All unsolved murder and many still unidentified.) He also says several times in one interview that one of the bodies found a little further down island (east) was best friends with someone found murdered on Gilgo. To me, that's extremely significant. Two best friends murdered and they are found just a few miles apart?? I don't believe in coincidences. After thinking about it further, I agree with what others said. They needed to pay much more attention to the larger story.
