But the paintbrush handle was broken to supposedly make it 'more manageable'. That doesn't add up, since if the handle was only a prop, it wouldn't need 'management'.

I mean, it made it easier to tie the cord around.

What really gets my goat is the picture of the basement window that Smit uses in his powerpoint. He has a picture of the window wide open, then goes on to say the intruder came in through that window. The window was not open that wide but slightly ajar. John closed and latched that window around 11am when he went downstairs.

Thomas copied the case files because Smit and others were changing their statements so he decided to keep the files original.

More like he needed this as reference material (which he admitted in his depo) for his book.

Maybe, Seeker, but I doubt the initial contract permitted him to keep evidence he developed.

I don't let ST and Hunter off the hook, either. But they weren't asked to return their caches and refused.

We'll never know if he was or wasn't since a copy of the contract he signed when he was initially hired hasn't ever been made public.

Smit says he was allowed to keep any evidence he developed according to his contract and Hunter never denied this. He only wanted to stop Smit from going public with it.
Kind of like saying, "you can have what you find, but you can't share it." IMHO

Well, he did go public with it.

Yep, but he couldn't show his power point presentation until after they signed that additional agreement.

Seriously, if they are going to release bits and pieces (BPD persons and the DA's office via current and ex-employees) then why don't they just release it all? It's not like the DA's office is actively working on this case anymore, and most likely never has. They just want to shelve it and hope it goes away.
I've said this for years, Boulder just wants everyone to forget this case and have people only think of it as that "lovely little college town".

Might be one BIG reason Hunter did practically nothing other than plea deals during his entire time in office.

I agree. No point in keeping it secret now. Supposedly, the DA's office has not spent a dime on this since they hijacked the case back in 2002.

The way I look at it is this: if (notice I say if) Patsy did it, then there's no reason to keep the evidence she did a secret. She can't be hurt anymore. If she didn't, then releasing the file might help bring someone forward to say "I recognize this" or "I might know this person."

I totally agree. She can't be hurt anymore by anything, but her surviving family members can. IMO the DA's office there knows the Ramsey's have deep pockets and are never going to breathe a word that is unfavorable to a Ramsey, or a Paugh.

This case was shelved long ago when Wood threatened to sue and got the case transfered to the DA's office. He knew they wouldn't do anything with it, and acheived his goal for the Ramseys to make this case "go away". At least within the boundries of the law.

He may have overstepped those boundaries, Seeker. I'm looking into that right now.

Go for it Dave, but I don't know if you'll find anything to use against him. Everyone at the time this came about complained, and loudly that this was just WRONG and could be not only unethical but illegal too. Nothing was done and it still went through. I don't know what the BPD's fear was, but Wood must have had something really damning against them in order to strongarm them into this "deal".

Well, I can file a complaint. And maybe I can get an investigation. I can think of three things against him. One is obstruction of justice. One is barratry (using litigation to enrich yourself). That one, I have no trouble. He BRAGS about it! Condemned from his own mouth! The last one is restraint of trade.

I don't know if he really had anything on them so much as they didn't want him getting access to the file. They didn't really give it up, though; the DA just took it.

Holdontoyourhat: Re fibers on the tape from Patsy. Can you tell me how the fibers got on the tape if Patsy never touched the tape not even after JB was found. Are these airborne fibers that just follow Patsy around?

Holdontoyourhat: Are you in any way connected to the Ramsey family: like a member or a friend?

I asked him the same question once; he never answered.

But actually, I think he's just either having fun or is trying to make the intruder theory sound ridiculous. He's probably just having fun.

It already is ridiculous.
