I also don't recall seeing that picture being reported in the press in regards to this trial.

So if they were unable to retrieve that picture from his camera or computer and they were unable to trace the youtube account and upload to him either, then that evidence may have been thrown out.

Earlier on Thursday, court heard that bystanders almost caught Magnotta dumping Jun Lin's head in a Montreal park the day after the killing.

Allard, citing Magnotta, wrote that depositing the head was "a short religious ceremony, but that he was interrupted by people and he left."

Bouthillier asked: "Did he tell you why he left?"

Allard replied: "He didn't want to be seen."

The prosecutor continued: "Why didn't he want to be seen? Because he knew it was wrong to walk around with a head?"

Allard repeated her conclusion that Magnotta knew right from wrong but was psychotic and believed Lin was a government agent sent to assassinate him.

Good post, Dane! :applause:

It did say in his early medical records that he felt like the psychiatric hospital was the only place that anyone cared about him, too. So he may have a touch of factitious disorder too (faking or exaggerating for attention).

http://montrealgazette.com/news/que...-paranoid-schizophrenic-decade-before-killing

At an appointment in March 2003, after the doctor noted his new patient was frightened and agitated and was swearing at voices he heard in his head, Magnotta was admitted to the Scarborough General Hospital and injected with antipsychotic medication.

He stayed for 11 days but the medical file described him as anxious, restless and worried that someone was trying to paralyze him.

A week later, on March 25, he was readmitted for another two weeks and told hospital staff that he felt “all alone in the world” and the hospital was the “only place where people actually care about him.”

Good post, Dane! :applause:

It did say in his early medical records that he felt like the psychiatric hospital was the only place that anyone cared about him, too. So he may have a touch of factitious disorder too (faking or exaggerating for attention).

Let's just look at what he's experienced so far since being picked up in Berlin. He spent the first 6 days or so in a regular jail. Then he was transferred to the "5 Star" psychiatric "resort", given his own private room, left alone and got a daily appointment with a sympathetic doctor to talk about himself and his feelings.

Then he was brought to Montreal. Again put in a jail. A psychiatrist visited with him and refused to give him the meds he wanted. The psychiatrist suggested he was stable and did not need any coddling and should stay in the jail. LM, via his lawyers, was able to manipulate himself into the hospital infirmary and get himself a new female doctor who coddles him and talks to him once a week about his "feelings". I noted earlier that a Montreal police officer was put into this hospital infirmary when he was arrested for his own comfort and safety (he has no illness, mental or otherwise). So I can assume that the hospital infirmary is the preferred place to be in that institution. He even tried to seduce the male nurse in there. Mood lighting and all.

The doctor we are going to hear from today works for the mental institution for the criminally insane that he is likely aiming for, instead of a regular federal prison, so maybe we'll see a glimpse of what things are like there in his testimony. No doubt LM would prefer to be there, being coddled and questioned about his "feelings" and being "rehabilitated" for possible release back into society within months, rather than put in isolation for his own safety in federal prison for life.

Since he has admitted that he feels "cared about" in hospitals, and he does present to them on his own when he wants or needs meds or attention, I'd say he is desperate to stay in a hospital environment and manipulate the staff there rather than to be put into a prison and see a psychiatrist once in a while to renew his meds.

Okay seriously, why isn't the Crown or judge stopping this?

I have no idea what this guy is going to say but personally I find "experts" with all those credentials don't actually do the job and have no clue. They spend most of their career trying to up their credentials and education and they have very little time with hands on experience because that's not really what they want to do. Book smart vs street smart. Book smart usually doesn't have a clue how things are applied in the real world if all they do is study the material and never try to apply it.

Maybe that is the point of LeClair's long drawn out CV exploration? To show that this guy spends more time doing lectures than hands on work with mentally ill patients?

Dr. Allard allowed that she may have wondered “if Mr. Lopez was part of his [Mr. Magnotta’s] delusion,” but in the end, she concluded he was a real person, albeit one the jurors haven’t seen.
http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com...-says-psychiatrist-who-takes-his-word-for-it/

She believed him about Manny. You'd think the Crown would have been able to find Manny if he really existed and if not the fact that he fooled Dr Allard about this should have been something the Crown could have really used to their advantage, but I didn't see in the tweets where they did that. This Manny is very puzzling. MOO

If the Crown had shown that Manny didn't exist, it wouldn't have helped them. Allard would have just said "Psychosis!"

I don't know. If the defense liked what this doctor had to say about LM they wouldn't have hired Dr. Allard IMO.

It will be interesting.

IF WE EVER GET TO IT!! :gaah:

  • #1,099
BTW, does anyone have a theory about why LM went to the psychiatrist before killing JL? The time he was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder. They recommended that he increase his antidepressant to help with his compulsive hair-pulling but didn't prescribe anything.

  • #1,100
Definitely!! But I was thinking more about how credible her judgement was when it came to Magnotta, if she believed that and it wasn't true then maybe she was wrong about everything else too.
