3. He's being paid by the prosecution. He's being paid just as much as Allard and Watts were.

4. He likes to get his name in the paper, and he'd already 'diagnosed' LM and was giving interviews about it before LM was even arrested.

I think you guys are being too hard on Dr tan, too. From what I can remember, the worst thing be ever did was give LM about 5 Viagra tablets in the 8 years or so that he was seeing him. He didn't prescribe him any psychotropic drugs at all. Not sure about Canada but here your specialist Dr (eg psychiatrist or neurologist or oncologist) would write to your GP and tell them all the meds you are on and everything. They do NOT just take your word for. Your GP needs to know what you are on so he doesn't accidentally prescribe something that will cause a fatal interaction. Why just assume that there was no liaison between the gap and the psychiatrists?

According to Tan he had no communication with LM's psychiatrist and everything in his report was again self reported by LM.

The Toronto doctor said he did not have access to Magnotta's psychiatric records and all the information in his files came directly from the accused.

Tan said during the time he treated Magnotta, the accused was receiving financial aid from the Ontario disability support program, though he told the doctor he was working as an actor and model, and later, as an escort.

So this doctor also knew that LM was receiving financial aid from the taxpayers of Ontario at the same time as living the "high flying glamorous life of an actor, model and escort". But never thought to report this to the ODSP? Or at least discuss it with his psychiatrist to see if there was any truth to it? Dr. Tan is a walk in clinic doctor, not a GP with a family practice.

According to Tan he had no communication with LM's psychiatrist and everything in his report was again self reported by LM.

Throughout this whole trial, LMs life story and event of things, those two words are key. Self reported. LM has had ample time and opportunity to build up his back story... just by telling any doctor / psychiatrist about his purported "symptoms". I am definitely going for the (narcissistic) histrionic personal disorder diagnosis, as per Dr. Chamberland. LMs goals throughout the years have been for monetary gain, and later on, for backup of his "case" so he would go free in any trials against him.
While putting on a helluva good show.

It all still comes down to his lust for fame and notoriety. As in LUST. A need he has to fulfil, regardless of the victims.

Its really difficult to make a decision on this case. Many visits to doctors but no long term history with a single doctor. Why? If Magnotta was serious about feeling better, why wouldn't he see one doctor for an extended period? Possibly because its easier to con a new doctor? Is it at all possible that this guy has always aspired to be a killer and that he was just setting up a defence for himself the whole time? Or was this just a charade designed to secure himself long term welfare benefits due to a mental condition? Has he ever had a legitimate job?

It would have been very interesting to hear all these doctors opinions of Magnotta if no crime had ever taken place. Im sure their diagnosis would be completely different. I almost feel like they are exaggerating his symptoms because its a feather the their caps to have studied "the most complex mental health patient ever". Its not a doctors responsibility to call BS on a patient. Magnotta is a resourceful guy, was aware of mental health symptoms from his father, and probably spent countless hours researching symptoms online.

As the trial goes on it seems that every single doctor concedes that LM is mentally ill. Even the prosecution witness thinks that there is at least some mental illness. So I think the jury is going to have a very tough decision to make. The prosecution seems to be at a disadvantage here because all they can present is the facts of the murder, but Magnotta has already admitted to that. They have had no opportunity to have their own doctor interview Magnotta, so all they can do is refute what the defence doctors have testified to, which appears to be a difficult task.

If I was on the jury, I'd wonder why LM refused to speak with a prosecution psychiatrist? If he was really ill and suffering from psychosis at the time of the crime, and it was obvious, then all of the doctors who interviewed him and studied his behaviour both before and after the crime would have come to the same conclusion and there wouldn't have been a need for a trial.

These poor jurors! When I recall Christmas shopping in my beautiful Montreal I feel even worse for them. Such a lovely city; hard to believe this has happened in "my city". (I don't mean to imply it would be any better somewhere else. It's simply horrific........)
