MA MA - Abbie Flynn, 60, went for walk before Super Bowl party, Gloucester, 2 Feb 2020

I'm surprised the guards at the light house parking lot are there this time of year. Is that a certainty? I've been there a few times off-season in previous years, and I've never seen a guard. In the summer, they post a guard at the beginning of the road, but they're there to discourage people from coming into the neighborhood just to drive around.

Can someone please confirm if there are/were 2 or 3 missing women in this area?I believe that one woman was found to have committed suicide? Thank you in advance. MOO

I'm glad they are still searching for her. The water is an obvious choice. In this case, is this an area where she might have fallen? Or been swept in by waves? Or is this a random spot to look for her in the water?

@SAMS This is what I gleaned from my recent reading in the subject. There were two other women - Susan Nilsson and Theresa Coen- who went missing but both were later found. Susan Nilsson was found in the water after a search (her own sons found her, sadly). LE says there was no evidence of foul play in her death. Theresa Coen was missing for a longer period of time. Authorities gave indications from the beginning of her disappearance that they were treating her case as one where self-harm was strongly suspected. At some point her partial remains were found on a beach in Chatham, MA (confirmed by DNA). I think this was one of those instances where the resolution of her case was not announced to the public, only to family. After Abbie Flynn went missing, people started to connect her disappearance to that of Coen's and Rockport Police declined to comment. Later Gloucester police confirmed Coen was no longer missing. I think some people interpreted this statement to mean she had JUST been found but my reading of it was just that they were addressing it for the first time, not that it was new information.

Thank you again! What is your theory on what happened to Abbie? MOO

I’ve read Brace Pond - where they conducted the sonar search today -- is an area in which she frequently walked but people have said she probably would’ve had to venture out onto the rocks to slip/fall in or get swept in.

I so hope that wasn’t the case.
Her friends and family must be distraught.
As was pointed out in another post, we don’t even know that she left the house for a walk.

This is one of the areas that Abbie would have visited frequently; very near to her home.

Abbie Flynn’s high school friend has created flyers to help find her former classmate - she tells me the response has been overwhelming from locals who have offered to pass them out tomorrow @boston25

I noticed that Abbie's high school friend has made flyers and distributed them to the community.
I wish Abbie's family had taken the initiative to do this but maybe they are overwhelmed right now.
I noticed that Abbie's brother made some public statements and was very thankful of the search efforts of LE in finding Abbie is a step in the right direction. I would think the Flynn family would have the financial resources to hire a PR agency to make flyers and distribute them and work with local media outlets to get the word out about Abbie. Abbie's brother and her husband when notified of Abbie's disappearance they took the next flight out of their respective locations but few comments from the brother and nothing from the husband. They had the sense of urgency to fly to Boston but really nothing when they got to Gloucester. Something doesn't add up here.

Even if I did know that they were, let's say, moderately wealthy, I would not take issue with the family not "hiring a PR agency" to spread the word about AF's disappearance as this is (IMO, and feel free to provide examples that prove me wrong) very, very uncommon.

It is far more common, IMO, for families of missing people to simply mobilize local organizations to which the missing person belonged in order to spread the word about their loved one. However, given that the missing woman and her husband seem to have split their time between AZ and MA, are described as being generally quiet/keeping to themselves, and that her siblings live in other states/countries, I'd give the family the benefit of the doubt and consider that they may not really be familiar with any networks to which AF belonged, or which might help to promote awareness of her disappearance.

I also think that it's possible that family members may not be talking to the public because they're wary of being painted in a negative light by the media if they make any inartful comments or say something that could be misconstrued as suspicious. <modsnip>

This family may be one that normally quietly keeps to themselves, and doesn’t seek attention. I’m sure they are in a state of shock, disbelief and despair. I don’t think we should judge anything they do or don’t do right now. They’re devastated.

Welcome to Websleuths! Nice post, and I totally agree.

People are different, some can't be held back from going postal and spreading the word on a missing person, and some are naturally quiet and step aside to let LE to handle the situation, since they don't know differently.

Hoping for the best with Abbie.
