Found Deceased MA - Aidan Blanchard, 11, Chicopee, 5 Feb 2021

I don't want to be that person, but what are the chances of Aidan being found safe? I have no knowledge about extreme weather and snow, so that's why I'm asking.
Sadly, the chances aren’t good. I just watched a show about survival where two grown brothers fell through ice while snowmobiling. Very fit, dressed for the weather. What I learned about hypothermia in this instance was that when the body’s core temperature reaches around 80 degrees, internal organs begin to shut down. In that instance one brother got out and went for help but the other was in the water for almost two hours. His body core temp was 83 when he was rescued and he did survive.

It really sounds like LE is certain Aidan (wish the media would spell his name right, I still am not sure) went into the river. Maybe they found footprints in the snow, or items belonging to him along the riverbank?

No matter the outcome I’ve literally been on my knees at night praying my rosary for this boy and his family. Their suffering and fear has to be more than most could bear.

BBM, bless you Limecat for praying for this family.

It's open, mostly, from what it looked like to me. From the videos I saw I don't think you'd be able to see if someone went in because parts are unfrozen. If you watch around 2:17 the camera gets a good shot of the river. It appears to be open and is moving very fast.

Search continues for missing 11-year-old Chicopee boy

I can't seethe vid, but if there is ice forming near the banks, Aidan might have been tempted to go on it. Unfortunately the ice on fast moving rivers is usually quite fragile, so if he stepped on the edge of it, it might break and he went under water without leaving much of trace behind.

In an update on the search for a missing 11-year-old boy, police said that, so far, the evidence points to Aiden having been alone near the Connecticut River when he disappeared.

Aiden Blanchard, 11, went missing on Feb. 5 around 11:30 a.m. Aiden was last seen in the Willamansett area of Chicopee, near Old Field Road, and heading toward the Medina Street boat launch along the Connecticut River, police said.

All evidence known thus far suggests Aiden was alone and near the river when he went missing,” Massachusetts State Police said in a statement. “Based on the information currently known to detectives, no foul play is suspected at this time. All leads continue to be investigated.”

Massachusetts State Troopers and Chicopee Police are continuing to search the Connecticut River for Aiden but said the weather has been making the process difficult.

Photos shared by the state police showed places where the river is swimming with icy slush as well as low visibility due to recent, persistent snowstorms.

I think this is the same one posted on their YT channel. I agree about the ice. I think just last year, or a year before that, two students from the same school or school district fell in that same river and died.

Question- realistically, do you all think Aidan may have fallen through the ice? :(

So sad to say, but considering the other tragedies of the boys that fell through it's possible.

Trusting the police, but read everything and it does not indicate who saw him going to the boat ramp. We know he was alone, but is there a parking lot nearby? I am sorry I think this way. Could he have been lured?

We've often done it. Go drive down to the Delaware and stayed in the car just to watch how powerful the river is moving those huge heavy chuncks of ice. There's some unseemly characters by our Delaware anyway.

Placing trust in the police though. Kids alone my head always goes to creeps lurking. I pray not. I am so, so sorry for his mom, and siblings.

How much can one family take?

I'm from a small town in Michigan and I know four people who have fallen through the ice and died, two of them being my cousins. The others were guys I went to high school with, separate incidents. One of them has a case on here. He was missing for quite a while, but they had a pretty good idea he'd tried to walk across the ice and fallen through.

Last week (?) a father and daughter fell through the ice on a snowmobile.

At this point in time it seems like that is really where LE are focusing their attention and it breaks my heart. Falling through the ice is definitely not unheard of.
