A suspect accused of kidnapping and murdering 24-year-old Amy Lord plans to offer an insanity defense.
Edwin Alemany's attorney, Jeffrey Denner, confirmed to FOX 25 his client plans to enter a not guilty by reason of insanity plea in the murder trial. Denner previously said his client is suffering from severe mental illness, and should not be held criminally responsible.
Alemany has pleaded not guilty to 20 charges, including first-degree murder, in the July 2013 death of Amy Lord, a Wilbraham native living in South Boston.
Alemany's trial had been scheduled to begin this Friday. But his attorney asked that it be postponed until February...
Alemany had been incarcerated at Bridgewater State Hospital, the state's secure mental health facility, since he was arrested in July 2013. He spent a single night in the Nashua Street Jail in August, where he attempted suicide, his lawyer said then.
Denner confirmed this week that Alemany had been discharged from Bridgewater State Hospital and moved to the Worcester County House of Corrections.

Police have said that the woman woke up holding a wallet that contained Alemany’s ID card.
thankfully edwin alemany will be charged as the sole perpetrator of this crime, unfortunately they knew last year that this man was a danger but were not able to apprehend him.
