LOWELL, Mass — Lowell police are searching for a missing seven-year-old girl, authorities announced Sunday.

Anna is black, weighs 70 pounds and is about 4′7″ according to Lowell police. She was last seen wearing black shorts, a white vest and a purple hair tie on East Merrimack Street between 2 and 3 p.m. She may have been riding a bike, police say.

Anna has autism and is non-verbal.

Anyone with information regarding Anna’s disappearance is asked to call 911 or Lowell police at 978-937-3200.

Anna has autism and is nonverbal, police said in an update on Twitter at 5:42 p.m., noting that she may be on a bicycle.

According to social media reports, the Lowell Fire Department also responded about 4:30 p.m. to the area of Geana Lane, with some engines bringing boats for a possible water search.
*I sure do hope they find this little girl with her purple hair tie.

Oh no! Water!

"It is our hope and our great expectation that we are going to find Anna asleep somewhere or that she's gotten disoriented" and can't get home, Ryan said.

There was expected to be a large law enforcement presence in Lowell during the search. The search included police dogs, drones and state police aircraft, the Lowell Police Department said.

Drones and dogs are assisting in the search, according to the Lowell Sun, which also said state police and the fire department are also helping.

Boats and divers have gone into the Merrimack River to search there as well.

Before the sun started to set on Sunday, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent Greg Hudon encouraged members of the Belvidere community to get outside and search around their homes.

“Please try to help us bring her home this evening,” Ryan said.

Lowell Police have deployed multiple officers, the K-9 Unit and the Drone Unit to the area. They are also being assisted by the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council K-9 Unit, the Massachusetts State Police Airwing, the Massachusetts State Police K-9 Unit and the Lowell Fire Department.

Multiple Fire Department boats and the Lowell Dive Team have entered the Merrimack River to conduct a water search for the missing girl, while others search backyards in the hopes that she may be hiding somewhere.

Residents are advised to expect a large police presence in the area during the search. Numerous emergency vehicles are present in the area of East Merrimack Street, Glenn Road, Geana Lane and the surrounding neighborhoods.

“She’s one of four children and every child is special,” said neighbor DA “We’re all devastated. We see her skedaddle quite a bit and she doesn’t understand.. her mother will turn her back and she’s like a roadrunner.”

“We are asking people to go outside to do a real search of their backyards, of playhouses, under wood piles, in a shed they may have,” said Ryan. “Any place that a 4′7″, 70-pound, 7-year-old little girl could be hiding.”

Police scoured the area with bikes, four-wheelers, K9 units and a drone in the hope of finding Anna before nightfall. Dive teams searched the Merrimack River, that runs through the neighborhood.

Family friends told Boston 25 News they had just seen Anna with her family earlier in the day at church and that they are still holding out hope for a positive outcome.

“We’re asking everyone for prayers. This is heartbreaking and we’re just hoping, we’re praying we’ve seen god do miracles we are trusting this is going to end up well,” said BN.
