Professionally I would NOT make that statement at this time just state that no caustic chemicals were present (my investigative "defense" for that statement would be the condition of her GI/Resp. tracts & oral cavity.). Without a doubt, a urine screen for DOAs (drugs of abuse) was run ASAP, however there are many other classifications of 'script or OTC drugs that can kill and these panels take longer to evaluate. Suffocation/asphyxia (manual or by accident) CAN present with petechial hemorrhage in the eye & on the facial skin, no way would any LE/or ME introduce that information to the public!

Would antifreeze poisoning be quickly detectable? I can picture a child who perhaps is not normally allowed to have soda seeing a container of inviting yellow-green drink...

I definitely understand why police believe she's local. Had any of you from outside of Massachusetts ever head of deer island before?

It's not very well known. Locals know about it and it's a beautiful place. but there are so many other places you think of before this one

BBM:

Yes, NOW it's a beautiful place but I remember when, before urban redevelopment et al. that the area was desolate & abandoned! (yeah, I'm OLD!).:loveyou:

I gather you're local? Is Deer Island a place that local boaters (either recreational, fishing, cargo, others?) would know about from having passed it?

I grew up outside of Boston, yes.

Boaters should know it, imo. The waste water treatment plant stands out. Hard to miss if you have ever been on a boat in that area

I live out in the suburbs, visit Boston fairly often but only been out on the islands a couple of times in 30 years. I know about it as a boating/picnic destination in a general sort of way. I wouldn't know exactly how to get there, but it would only take me a few minutes with google to figure it out.

I can't imagine why I'd go to the trouble of taking a body there, though. Many much better places near here.

CNN News Live Update: Just reported on CNN news that:

1. The DA office believes that Baby Doe was placed on the shoreline and did not wash ashore

2. Initial toxicology reports indicate that Baby Doe did not ingest Draino, bleach or any other chemical like that - further tests are being done

CNN Reporters: Anderson Cooper and Randi Kay

Gosh...I just don't get it! I am literally on vacation and I swear I saw her face in so many little girls today at the St. Louis arch I could scream. Her face is honestly so common.

I really felt like it had to be poisoning from the above mentioned items. What happened to this angel, and why hasn't someone come forward...gosh!!

The ethylene glycol (antifreeze fluid) in the USA is regulated now to have a "bitter" component to HELP minimize the sweet appeal of the "drink". Detecting the metabolites (break down products) in the blood CAN be done but it isn't a routine test. Most cases are discovered by the Ca0xylate crystals within the urine or kidney slices after the post. (usually about 72 hrs or more after the initial autopsy).

Another question was malnutrition/starvation: depending on the amount of organ decay, there might be a "suggestion" of child neglect. Again, given the estimated TOD (time of death) stomach contents MIGHT help IF there were unique food items ingested.

IMHO.

A water plant is slightly more inviting than a prison, that's for sure

If anyone finds it relevant, it had a prison for long time. It was shut down when i was young. Probably early to mid 90's

Interesting. I assume a men's prison? Maybe someone familiar with the area from when it was a prison?

www.mass.gov/eohhs/docs/dph/research-epi/-report--2012.pdf

This is a very long read, only for those who are interested. Could it be assumed that LE is taking a look at vital statistics, birth records from surrounding counties? It would be a lot to look through and take some time but might there be a profile of the child/mother that could come from looking at these records? That is of course assuming there is a local connection. But I would think they could look at children born the approx. time. Do a welfare check. Could be thousands of kids. Sure manpower would be an issue. This is also assuming the baby was born in a hospital.

Sorry if this is old Anderson Cooper said he's about to make an announcement about the case

This is so confusing. I don't understand why a cause of death could not be determined.

I'm still leaning towards being left in a hot car for now.

Can anyone remember a case where a "found child" got this sort of publicity and yet went unrecognized? I certainly can't. That's why I wonder whether the entire community she was a part of might be keeping silent. (For example, parents here illegally, girl died accidentally, and everyone is shutting up so no one gets deported.)
The boy in the box. That's a sad one I don't think we will ever have amswers to.
