That could be, but LE doesn't have the authority to take or run JA's DNA without a legal reason. JA would have to be arrested for a crime and then DNA could be taken upon arrest and that DNA would have to be run through Codis. If JA has served any appreciable time in prison or a detention center, his blood DNA would already be in Codis and yes, it would show up if he is connected to any other crime where his DNA was left.

What a mess all of this is!

That's a thought. Unsolved crimes are checked against DNA, fingerprint in a nationwide database and if he's a convicted felon his DNA would already been in there because it's required by law.

Yes, you take a cheek swab upon arrest, then blood DNA prior to being released from prison or a detention center. I trained to take and to teach how to take DNA cheek swabs at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab (or whatever state you are in). I am certified to take DNA blood collections through the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab also. You have to be certified to take blood DNA.

State Police Crime Labs are notoriously backed up and it is possible if a person committed a crime where he/she left DNA, it might not show up in the system yet. It depends how long ago the crime would have taken place.

Upon arrest, an arrestee is booked on AFIS. It is an electronic booking machine. Fingerprints are rolled on AFIS. Every arrest will then show up almost immediately, and you might even get a 'hit' of being wanted for a crime other than the one you were being arrested for. At the end of the booking process, AFIS spits out 4 fingerprint cards. A set of right and left prints for State Police and a set for the arrestees file.

The legalities of using a person's DNA are very clear. DNA taken for criminal purposes cannot be used to establish paternity, and DNA taken for paternity cannot be used for criminal purposes.

There simply has to be a reason a person will not take a DNA test for paternity. Please notice I am not using anyone's name in this paragraph!

I believe it depends on the state too. Some states only gather the dna from felons, other states swab everyone convicted/arrested. Regardless, as you pointed out, a paternity test should not be entered into the criminal database.

if they didnt clean the fridge well, perhaps.
The short answer is yes with an asterisk. If there was a large stain on the rug from body fluids post mortem and she had been dead there awhile.. and the rug remained there.. then especially with humidity etc you would get a whiff every now and again. My guess is going to be she didnt remain on the floor or rug very long.. body fluids seep out and (sadly) i have seen where the fluids seeped thru the kitchen floor and down into the basement ceiling below. That person had been dead several days in the August heat. When a dead body remains in a home etc.. after a few days you often see a lot of flies up against the windows.. This makes me think that Bella had to have been refrigerated or frozen otherwise the flies would be around.. the fluids would be draining and the stench would be very noticeable.. even in the surrounding apartments. I don't think JA is the father. Why on earth would he not submit to a DNA test? If it came back he wasn't I suppose all this attention he's getting disappears.

Would JA be responsible for support payments for Bella going back to when she was born?

I will agree that placing a blanket in the plastic bag with dead small child before disposal does have a female touch to it, so it is possible that RB is the one who did it. If true, wouldn't she have been the one to throw her daughter out like garbage? IMO I just have a hard time equating that to a mother who loved their child....whether it being an addict relapsing, intentional or accident, fear of removal...doesn't matter.

I personally know kaitlin. I am not friends with her but I only met a her a few times years ago. She used to be friends with my friends step daughter so when I would hang out with my friend she would be there sometimes. I also know Sadie's father. He lives with one of my friends. Both are addicts. I really hope she gets put in jail and stays there.

in my state, a father is only liable for support from the date he was served. but im not sure when public assistance is involved.

Would JA be responsible for support payments for Bella going back to when she was born?

short answer: Y E S but with the qualifier that the State would have to "go after him, legally! And at this point, how many $!$!$ does he have?

Oh ok. I think Boots maybe was just letting us know about another unfortunate story of another child, I do remember that.

I'm so sorry about Sadie... So sad. Gone too soon! I can't imagine how this affects people who know a person who ends up killing her child. I hope you are doing okay. Sadie's mom was young too. I hope she gets help with her drug addiction and the father too. Drug addiction is such an epidemic. I can imagine Bella's story affected you too. Two Italian Bellas. Beautiful! :heartbeat:

Yes, it came up while I was looking for stories on Bella Bond. Too many babies being killed by parents. I'll look and see if there is a thread for Sadie. I am interested on how the mother is charged with Sadie's death.

Speaking of DNA and specifically father's DNA, I watched an episode of 20/20 on ID. It's Episode #125 and originally aired 09/28/2015 and it is set to air Sunday at 8 or 9 a.m. central time. It's titled Secret Intentions. It's about a woman who was using DNA to research family history when she uncovers a shocking secret.

Families in fear after rogue employee may have swapped own sperm at Utah fertility clinic

Anyway, there is a woman featured in this episode whose specific qualification is paternal DNA. The family hired her to help them find the young woman's real father after finding out that her father was not her biological father. I wish I could remember her name. Will record and write down the name.

Here's a link about the fertility clinic involved:

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/univers...lity-clinic-employee-may-have-used-his-sperm/

CBS affiliate KUTV in Salt Lake City reported that the situation came to light after a family that had used RMTI to conceive a daughter -- now 21 years old -- decided to try 23 and Me, a DNA testing service, to learn more about their genealogy. When they received the results, the family found out that their daughter was not related to her father.

"I felt my stomach just drop when I called my daughter and my husband's DNA up next to one another they didn't share any DNA at all, and I just thought to myself, 'Oh my God,'" the mother, who wanted to remain anonymous, said to KUTV.

She added that she was “shaking” when she told her husband and her daughter the “terrible news.”

Using the genealogy test results, the mother said she found a cousin of Thomas Lippert. The mother said another DNA test using Lippert's mother's DNA confirmed Lippert was indeed the biological father.
