Sickening. Her excuses about being under his control - please, I can't even go there. She makes me sick. He makes me sick. Bio-dad makes me sick. Poor Bella.
I agree completely! Hopefully a jury sees through her "poor me, I'm a victim too" bs. I'm not sure what the stiffest penalty she can get with the charges she has but I hope they aren't lenient on her.

Thank you so much for the updates today.
Question...I'm starting to forget tiny details...so divers found the weights and duffle bag? How did Bella's little body escape the weights and duffle bag??

Cadaver dog alerted on the fridge in the residence.

Based on where Bond told them teh body was dumped divers were able to locate the duffle bag and two weights. The weights matched one retrieved under search warrant to one that remained in McCarthy's father's basement of his auto shop.

Bond continued to collect benefits even after Bella was dead.

Bumping for information about the duffle bag and weights. Not an excuse for Bond at all, but finding the weight matching at McCarthy's father's basement seems like he could be the mastermind behind disposing of little Bella.

I missed the hearing, so I don't know if the prosecution gave any explanation of how Bella's body escaped the duffle bag. Maybe they didn't zip the bag up, or maybe it was divine intervention that her tiny body was able to escape the clutches of the deep and ride the current to Deer Island in the garbage bag.

I just saw your link to the arraignment. Thank you so much BUF!

BBM:

Yes, the divers found the weights & the bag very, very close to where the "toss" point was described. (the perps were not marine biologists nor ecologists, the brackish water & current flow in the area was NOT strong enough to transport the "duffle bag & contents" out to sea!)

Again, lack of familiarity with the eco-system of the area and forensic knowledge of organic material decomposition by the perps made the explosive release of Bella's body into the open waters a "sure thing"! The bag material was decomposing/rotting, the body was bloating with gases and the bag was NOT hermetically sealed off, rather just closed in a haphazard manner* (this is hypothesized by the investigators).

* is the working hypothesis given the condition of the bag.....the investigators "assumption" is that the perps used the bag as transport & containment without really understanding the physical limitations. As my DH has always maintained, perps are just smart enough to assume that they've "faked out" LE but thankfully, they are profoundly inept & get caught.....JOB SECURITY!

Thanks SO much for the up-dates!!

Thank you Joypath for the explanation. Makes sense. So a duffle bag could decompose that quickly?

It still seems to be a miracle that she was found at all. Bond had to realize the gig was up when Bella's body was recovered and sperm donor starts knocking. Otherwise, I suppose, she would have just kept drawing and cashing those checks that were meant for Bella. It just doesn't get any lower than these 3 idiots. Complete waste of oxygen. I wish they would never see the light of day again. Lock them in a closet and throw away the key.

BBM.
I have no words. Well, I do, but....

As do I. I will just say "What an absolute piece garbage" and leave it at that.

If he was returning the merchandise, sure sounds like the video shows him going in the wrong direction. Needles belonged to a friend, merchandise belonged to a friend. I don't believe anything he said.

Probably weren't even his pants.....

Why does RB have the right to waive appearance at her next date Feb 25?

Does that mean she gets to hide in her jail cell instead of coming to court?

If I remember correctly, this was the first mention of the duffle bag and weights being found. The duffle bag was described as like one issued to those in the service, with large grommets and tied (not the zippered kind) that MM used for his laundry.

MM's arraignment is next week. Hoping that we will get more information from that...maybe even a cause of death. I still can't understand why RB is only charged with accessory after the fact (and larceny).

I find it hard to believe listening to the prosecutor describe what RB had told them. Her story was that she knew that Bella was dead when she went into the room & MM would not let her pick up Bella and made her leave, then he left the room to get a contractor bag IN THE APARTMENT, placed her in there and then into the fridge. Then they just went into a drug binge for about three days....

Did they already hold a Grand Jury to decide on these charges? I don't understand why they don't put RB up for accomplice to murder (or similar) charges for the jury to decide.

We don't seem to have heard McCarthy's version of events yet, I don't like that they seem to be shutting RB into lesser charges before McCarthy has his day in court.

There were grand jury indictments on both 12/18/15. IDK, but it could possibly be that the prosecution didn't have enough evidence to "prove beyond a reasonable doubt" that RB was involved with the murder of little Bella. Little information has been disclosed about their investigation, not even a COD yet.

I still can't get passed that RB could only receive up to 12 years for Bella's murder (with a large majority of that on the larceny charge). Makes me sick.

I agree wholeheartedly, BUF!

Another thing from the latest hearing is that MM told RB to get out of the room, but she didn't run to a phone or a neighbor's or anything. She just let him get on with it (according to her statements).

Amonet, this should be the #1 thing the prosecution focuses on. She could have run right then and there for help. I truly believe she was in that room when Bella was murdered.

]Why does RB have the right to waive appearance [/U]at her next date Feb 25?

BBM:

YES, she has EVERY right to "skip" her appearance in court during preliminary proceedings! Her counsel will represent her, de facto speaking for her OR as I've seen happen, not speaking for her per se, just attending & then requesting a demand for a delay to "consult" with the client! A "charming" legal tactic that MOST Judges permit ONCE, then demand that the accused attend ALL proceedings! (IIRC, Baez pulled this stunt with CA). The presumed legal reason for this is to mitigate negative public impressions of the defendant, to "avoid tainting" the proverbial jury pool.

Yep, she can "hide" in her cell OR as many waiting for trial detainees do, "hide" in the library doing research on the case, so to speak! RB is in an unusual position, she is high profile & thus routinely very isolated from general population. IMVHO, she is THRIVING on the "special status"! (okay, not just IMHO but based on conversations with "those in the know" aka staff associated with the penal system in Ma.!)

BBM:

Actually the term decomposing is a misnomer, the bag was NOT a brand new, in perfect shape bag, rather one that was "showing its age" & "experience", already in poor condition. Under the hypothesis of the LE, it was NOT "closed" in a proper manner, i.e. overlapping the material and thus the water flow shifted the contents. Not a "published" hypothesis but one MANY of the LE believe/believed, Divine intervention was at work! (yeah, LE see more than their share of "there but for the Grace of God" moments!)

IMHO, she did a good job of not appearing at her last hearing, using her hair to cover her face and having someone from her atty. office to "soother" and further hide her from the proceedings.
