Just a guess, but I bet MM took RB to that place on the wharf & told her that's where he hung out. Then she may have dumped the backpack & weights there, leading LE to it. Still waiting to hear the CW's explanation of how the plastic bag got out of the duffle bag and ended up on Deer Island.

I think there is a forensic report on that. I wish I could find the bookmark I had but I am not sure anyone can put a spin on it.
IIRC the duffle bag was tied with rope that came undone and the gasses in the bag caused it to float out.
