The world has not stopped being dangerous or fatal for the weakest, women, children, the elderly, minorities.. No country is exempt from murders of women. It's a tragedy.
The first murder trial in the USA after the Revolution was a boyfriend killing his girlfriend. The defendant had a dream team of defense lawyers, including Alexander Hamilton. The boyfriend was aquitted.

The defendant in this case will not have similiar fate and will end up behind bars. imo

Your contribution is very interesting. It leads me to comment on a topic that often attracts mixed criticism. Justice doesn't treat all citizens equally. Just as there are cases that don't reach the courts, others do, but the rulings may not be as fair.

If you're comparing the two cases, the one I mentioned in early days of the USA and this one in Maine, they are different in a big way.

In this case, the body was on the defendant's property and he admitted to the killing and burial.

In the old case, the boyfriend did not admit anything and the body was found in a well by neighbors, away from where he lived. He likely committed the crime, and public opinon thought he did, but the evidence could not prove it beyond reasonable doubt....and, yes, he had Hamilton on his side.

I think most here would agree that justice is not always fair, but in this particular case, it's unlikely this defendant would ever be aquitted no matter if he had connections or wealth. The evidence is overwhelming.

Aww, poor girl and unborn baby.
Sounds like it went horribly wrong when she last went to collect some of her things ?
The most dangerous time can be when a lady is with the boyfriend or husband and he doesn't want to take any responsibility for the upcoming baby.
At least that's the scenario I'm guessing.

Rest in peace, Kylee !
My condolences to all who loved her.

A haunting text was revealed in court Wednesday as Gregory Groom was charged with murder in the death of his pregnant 18-year-old girlfriend Kylee Monteiro in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. Prosecutors said just before she was killed, Monteiro texted her sister saying, "If I die, it was Greg."

*****
He pleaded not guilty to murder and several other charges at his arraignment in Taunton District Court Wednesday.

*****
After the argument, Mohan said Monteiro sent a text message to her sister. He read it in court Wednesday.

"He threw me on the ground and pulled my hair and strangled me. My phone is at 4% and if I die, it was Greg," Mohan said.

*****
Mohan said Groom admitted he had an argument with Monteiro, pushed her, and that she fell back and hit her head. Police then asked Groom to tell them where Monteiro's body was buried. Mohan said Groom drew a "rudimentary map" of the County Street property where Groom lives.

Mohan said Groom eventually told investigators he killed Monteiro after the argument on August 6 behind a shed on the property. He stabbed Monteiro twice in the neck and once in the chest with a kitchen knife, causing the blade to break, the prosecutor said. Groom then allegedly told police that he buried her about 20 yards away.

Bbm.
A demonic rage infused Greg, my .02.

At least he can't claim she fell when pushed and died from the injuries.
What a fool to throw away his own life due to not wanting to take personal responsibility !
Hope he gets the max.
Imo.

Moo ..he could of just called police and had them remove her from property. Since she legally had no rights to be on property....moo

I think he felt trapped by the pregnancy.

But, of course, he created that pregnancy.

Rest peacefully sweet Kylee. Your life mattered; I am so sorry there was such sorrow on this earth. I am glad he gave up her location; it certainly should seal his fate

Your opinion is good. But I am not comparing those cases. No. I'm just expressing very general ideas. Sometimes we can talk about justice for the rich and justice for the poor. It shouldn't surprise us that this is applied in many cases. Even when the evidence is impossible to hide, the system provides countless ways to "evade" justice and achieve shorter sentences. Here at Websleuths, there are many examples in cases that go to trial. Even some very well-known ones.

Yes. Her life mattered.

Just more widely reported. Even through the early 2000s, many states regarded such crimes as a "family matter" and they were not reported, tracked, or prosecuted at all. (Source: I worked in a domestic violence safe house serving women from 2 states.)
Iowa's fetal homicide law also applies to crimes where the victim and perpetrator were unrelated, or even didn't know each other. I first heard about it when an arrest was made in a cold case where a sex worker, who was 5 months pregnant, was found dead, and they finally caught the perp, who was a customer. Drunk driving fatalities, where the woman miscarried due to the accident but made an otherwise full recovery, also apply.

A man was found dead and a woman unresponsive on the same sprawling, 20-acre Rehoboth property where a missing teen was discovered dead last month.

The unnamed man and woman were found just before 7 a.m. on Friday, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

The pair were both unresponsive and inside a workstyle van, which was parked on the property of 107 County St. in Rehoboth, the office said. The van appeared to be where the man and woman were living.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, the office said. The woman was brought first to Morton Hospital, then to a hospital in Boston for further treatment.

The situation does not appear to be suspicious at his time, the office said, and identities are being held until family notifications can be made.
