Goroshko was last seen at The Penalty Box, a bar on Causeway Street in the North Station area of Boston, Massachusetts, on June 4, 1975. She has never been heard from again and her car, a gold and black 1970 Ford Maverick with the Massachusetts license plate number 9K7755, has not been found either. A photo of the car is posted with this case summary.

At the time of her disappearance, Goroshko lived in the 50 block of Monastery Road in Brighton, Massachusetts. Her mother died in 1992 and her sister in 2008, and in both their obituaries, Goroshko is listed as having predeceased them. Her case remains unsolved.

I always think about bodies of water when I hear someone is missing with their vehicle. Plenty of that where she lived.

Wow, never heard of this case and I was a teen around that time. The Penalty Box is no more, closing I think in 2013? It was considered somewhat of a dive bar, a place to go before and after Bruins and Celtics games. The Boston Garden was right across the street. No Bruins or Celtics games on June 4, 1975. There were no concerts, the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd played later that month. There seems to be nothing on the internet about this case. Never found her or the car...

New England’s Unsolved: The disappearance of Dorothy Goroshko

The Boston Police Department did look into Dorothy Goroshko’s case back in the 1970s, but nothing turned up. Today, the BPD’s Cold Case Unit is taking a fresh look.

The Dorothy Goroshko case is a homicide investigation.

“I think she was killed,” Boston Police Sgt. Detective William Doogan tells me. “Whitey Bulger couldn’t stay hidden with all his money. She didn’t have two nickels to her name.”

As Boston Police continue to look into this case, they are taking a hard look at Dorothy’s boyfriend, a convicted felon named John “Jack” Boulton.

He was a brutal, mean, S.O.B,” Rick Goroshko tells me.

Going back to his conviction record there is one case that stands out: the manslaughter.

On New Year’s Eve 1965 into 1966, John Boulton lived in Marshfield with a woman he married after getting out of a Florida prison. She had a two-year-old daughter, Mary Jane Boulton, from a previous marriage, living with her.

On that night, the baby disappeared. Boulton told police the child was missing.

Once the investigation began, it didn’t take long for the child’s mother to tell police that her husband, John Boulton, beat the girl to death. She said she was with Boulton, a few miles away in Marshfield, when Boulton buried Mary Jane.

I’m glad Sergeant Detective Duggan is looking into this cold case. The number one thing is on Wednesday night, June 4, 1975 to establish whether she went with her girlfriends to Sansone and Colosseum after drinking at the Penalty Box or did she end up going out drinking with Jack Boulton in Brighton. One thing to note, since the Colosseum was supposedly an after hours, it probably did not open until the other bars in the area closed which was probably one or 2 AM. Oddly there were a few other after hour bars in Boston around the same time but I never heard of the Colosseum. Therefore probably was not open very long. Second, Boulton says he walked to his house in Roslindale from Brighton. I believe his family lived on Beach Street. That is an awfully long walk at that time of the night or early morning.

John F. Boulton is 80 years old living in Sarasota Fl. He continues to deny any knowledge in Dorothy's disappearance. John killed Mary Jane Stanford aka Mary Jane Boulton on Dec 31 1965. Then he and his wife Ardella buried the 2 1/2 year old in a shallow grave. On Jan 1st 1966 the couple reported Mary Jane missing from the rear of their home. 2 weeks after extensive searches for Mary Jane, Ardella went to police and led them to the remains of Mary Jane. She claimed she came home on Dec 31st 1965 and found Mary Jane (who was being cared for my John Boulton) unconscious and with welts on her bottom. She says she tried to administer CPR but it was too late. I can not find a cause of death for Mary Jane. John Boulton was arrested and served a few years in prison. I do not believe Ardella served anytime or was charged. From some research I found a comment that stated Ardella divorced John but later remarried him after his release from prison and then they divorced again, although I can not confirm. Mary Jane was buried in Florida where her biological father and Ardella's ex-husband Cecil Stanford. Ardella eventually remarried and died as Ardella May Luce in 2016. Cecil Stanford was an accomplished man, in his obituary it states He suffered the death of his second daughter, Mary Jane Stanford, when she was only 3 years old. He died in 2010. Mary Jane is dead by the hands of John F. "Jack" Boulton and Dorothy is missing, likely dead and John is as well the likely killer. Yet John continues to live his life a free man enjoying his retirement despite all the hurt he has caused the Goroshko and Stanford families.

On June 4, 1975, 36-year-old Dorothy P. Goroshko went missing from her address on Monastery Road in Brighton. She was last seen in the area of North Station on Causeway Street in Boston. Her family and friends suspect foul play in her disappearance.

Goroshko’s son Rick, 14 years old at the time she went missing, is offering $50,000 for information leading to the discovery of his mother. “I want to find her body,” he told the Boston Globe “We want to be able to give her a proper burial.”

After a few days without word from their mother, Dorothy's son went to the police station to report her missing. Forty-eight years later, Dorothy's sons are still searching for answers.

Last week, we shared Part 1 of Dorothy Goroshko's story. You learned about Dorothy's life from her sons, John and Rick. Rick and John's lives were never easy, not before their mother disappeared and not after. Despite Dorothy's faults, Rick wants to find her, and John believes he deserves an answer. They lost their mother at a critical time in their lives. Rick and John were still kids, left to wonder if their mother had simply chosen to abandon them or if something terrible had happened to her. Neither outcome made them feel any better about any of it. The boys also had to work to maintain a roof over their heads and put food on the table.

On June 4, 1975, Dorothy Goroshko left home to meet friends for drinks at The Penalty Box in Boston, MA. Dorothy's group of friends were known to frequent that bar in North Station. Dorothy's friends recalled that she was with them that evening, and they stayed until closing. They said their goodbyes, and no one was sure where Dorothy headed next. There were rumors about after-hours clubs in the area, but no one could confirm that she had been at any of those establishments that night. Could Dorothy have headed home and gotten into an accident? Could she have gone home with someone she met that night? Or could she have gone to meet someone afterward? In recent years, one person has told a story about seeing Dorothy late that night.
