Tried enhancing her a photo some for a clearer image.

I was reviewing a female UID found a year later in West Virginia with a PMI of 1998-2001. Remains were skeletal but the recon is somewhat similar to the likeness of Helen. Height was estimated at 5’0” so also on the petite side. Age estimate 37-47.

Helen’s chin is a little more rounded but the jawline is close. Wish we had dentals for UID.

A WV Paving employee came across a human skull while scavenging through a road-side "dump" for mason jars. Remains were scattered over an area approximately the size of a football field.

I wonder when Ms. Gomez was last seen by someone outside her home and what her family believe may have happened.

Did she really leave everything behind- even her house keys? Was the front door locked when her boyfriend arrived home? When did he start searching for her and how? When did he report her missing? Did she have a vehicle she left behind? Was there anyone in the neighbourhood she would visit on foot?

I'm actually Helen's niece. There is so much more to the story. I happen to have come across this forum by searching her name. Wow! Thank you for providing all this info. <modsnip - info not in public domain removed pending verification> Soo sad. She was a beautiful person with a loving soul.

Welcome, mskeke87. I am so sorry for your family's loss. I hope her case will be solved despite the years that have passed.

I am not finding any public information stating DNA testing has been completed or in process. I will contact the chief ME to find out.

I submitted the information to the ME 4/13 on the unidentified side and didn’t hear back. I then contacted the Detective for Helen’s missing case and have received the following. He’s on it.

“I have received your email, thank you for your assistance! I will also be contacting Mr. Izzo. In looking at both photos I agree, very similar. I will keep you updated with further information. Hopefully DNA can assist us.”

Hi! I would also like to reach out to the Detective on Helen's case. I'm not sure exactly what to say... Do I give him the Case #? Or just say I'm following up on the unidentified woman? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

This is the response that I received from the Detective handling her case....

I have not received any information regarding a match for Ms. Gomez regarding the West Virginia unidentified female. The dental records we have on file are not the greatest.

I cannot say as to why she was just listed in NAMUS in 2024 with her being missing since 2000. I can say her case has never been closed. If anything is developed resulting in some sort of closure on this case I will keep you posted. Thank you for your ongoing concern for Ms. Gomez.

The detective that you mentioned in your direct message is not the same as listed as the contact for Helen Gomez. I reached out to the detective listed on Helen’s case in NamUs. He is the one that responded to me. I sent you his direct information. I would give it a few days for a response. Sometimes it takes a bit to hear back.
