New Bedford police are asking for the public’s help in finding a 61-year-old man who’s been reported missing.

Henry Fermino is described as having hazel eyes, a medium build, and weighing around 160 pounds.

Police say he’s been missing since May 19.

On July 7, at approximately 9 a.m., members of the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) Search and Rescue Unit conducted a large-scale search for Fermino, according to a social media post from the Dartmouth Police Department.

The search was conducted in the wooded area located between Cross Road and Reed Road, after Dartmouth detectives received credible information from New Bedford detectives.

The search was not successful and Chief Brian P. Levesque and the members of the Dartmouth police urge anyone who frequents the paths in that part of the woods to remain on the lookout for him.

The search continues for a New Bedford man who’s been missing since May, and this week his family learned his phone has been found in a local motel.

Henry Fermino, 61, was reported missing by his sister on May 19.

Detectives pinged his cell phone and it led them to a wooded area between Cross Road and Reed Road in Dartmouth.

On July 7, members of the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) Search and Rescue Unit conducted a large-scale search in the area for Fermino, but he wasn’t found.

He was last known to be at the Capri Motel on State Road in Dartmouth, which sits in between Cross Road and Reed Road where the search was conducted.

Cardoza said a family friend stopped by the motel on Monday and was told by staff that they found Fermino’s phone in the room he was staying in. It had been sitting at the front desk.

Fermino, 61, was well-known in New Bedford, [TC] said. He worked at a number of businesses in the city over the years including Freestones Restaurant, Knuckleheads Bar & Grill, a convenience store on Union Street, and driving a taxi cab.

Circumstances of Disappearance
Checked into the Capri Motel by himself Saturday-05/08/2021 for two nights.
On Sunday-05/09/2021, girlfriend of Henry stated she received a phone call from a strangers phone and had a voicemail from Henry at around 8:00 AM.
Same strangers, while having breakfast, stated they observed Henry crossing Route 6 away from the Motel.
Later that day, the housekeeper stated at around 2:00 PM, she saw Henry with an unknown male that she had never seen before but no vehicle parked out front.
His cell phone last pinged in the area of the motel up until Tuesday-05/11/2021.
Housekeeper stated she found Henry's cell phone while cleaning his room on Monday-05/10/2021. Henry has not been seen or heard from since.

If you search Henry's name on FB and look at all available public posts, you will see that a local man in his community is trying to find him and is doing his own investigation. I believe they were friends.

Not a lot is being said publicly or officially, unfortunately, which his friends, family, and community all do not seem okay with if you look at statuses made by the friend of Henry's. Friend seems very popular in New Bedford so lots of community engagement on his statuses.

DOB: 5/19/1960 Date Last Seen: 5/9/2021 in Dartmouth, MA Henry Fermino was last seen on Sunday, May 9, 2021, by a housekeeper working at the Capri Inn in Dartmouth. At that time, Mr. Fermino was 60 years old and had recently checked into the motel. On the day he was last seen, he was observed to be in the company of another man. An extensive search of the surrounding areas was conducted in the days following his disappearance with negative results. Mr. Fermino is an African American man who at the time of his disappearance was described as 5’2” and weighing approximately 155-165 lbs., with brown eyes and brown hair that is receding.
