Do they use rope for the lobster traps?
Is is possible that the lobster trap had been anchored offshore with remains inside and when the ocean kicked up from the storm, it was freed and carried into shore.
~ Yes and I would be interested in knowing if the traps were extra weighted, ie; weighted instead of baited with brick or some such.
~ IMO lobster traps are designed so that what goes in can't easily come out,. except for undersized ones that large ones can't fit through. It would be more likely IMO for the body to have been tied to them and weighed down.
Here is a picture showing the parts of the trap and how it works;

"Mendez’s family is not the only one wondering if they’ll have closure soon. A private investigator working on behalf of the family of University of New Hampshire student Elizabeth “Lizzi” Marriott, who was murdered in 2012, showed up at the scene. Her body, in a suitcase, is believed to have been dumped into waters off the New Hampshire Seacoast and has never been found." http://www.salemnews.com/news/local...cle_0d7009e5-70e3-5416-bd41-4ac1a8e1e872.html
Okay this is a really stupid question I guess but, if her body has never been found, how is believed that she was murdered and put in a suitcase and dumped in the water off NH? Did someone confess to doing it? Is there a thread here for her? (going to look now...)
ETA: okay well, that answers thatI'd never heard of Lizzi's case before but this same article also states: "Further down the beach, near the low tide waterline, investigators also carefully examined what appeared to be rope."
Could be nothing... could be something. Ugh.![]()
After the truck left the scene, Mendez talked to police for a few minutes before driving off. She did not respond to questions about the investigation. Monahan said the DAs office will release information today if the ME has any findings.
I hope the ME can provide the families involved some information today...

Update, 11:18 a.m., Thursday:
It was 8:04 a.m., when a woman called police to report finding human remains on King’s Beach.
According to the Swampscott Police Department log, she contacted police and waited for units to arrive across the street.
She's home? Confirmation yet?Good to be back with you, WSers. Sounds like the RSO is down in VA. I thought of her as the storm was coming. I hope her son, mom, dad, sister, mate, family and friends find some solace soon and justice thereafter.
It's seems cruel to her family to have to wait to lay her at peace, if it is Jaimee Mendez, in the interest of justice, which seems closer at hand, somehow.
Yes, FindHG, I found myself thinking of Jaimee too as the snowstorm was raging up here in Maine... And thinking about how her family must feel with loads of snow preventing them from finding their girl. And now, after worrying about that, they have the anxiety of the beach discovery. I just can't imagine the stress they are enduring. Hugs to them, and all those here that advocate for Jaimee.

I was thinking about the wind and the sea, Jaimee in it, and how things move and that they may reveal her, somehow, for her family. My image of where she was from the start was in the sea, by a pier.
Just looking at her pictures, her dental records might be distinctive enough to speed up a rule in or out.
I will go check out those maps that were posted later. I am so sad reflecting over this and MM . I don't even know what to type. I hope Jamiee is home soon. I read it could take a while for the ID I hope that is not true and she is ID'ed as fast as Ashley was.
