SOLVED MA - Jane Britton, 22, Harvard student, Cambridge, 7 Jan 1969

  • #541
I may be WAY off base, but has anyone ever reached out to Richard M? He is apparently still on faculty at Harvard and worked closely with Lamberg-Karlovsky. RM was on the expedition with Britton. I dont know how close he may have been with Britton, but being that (according to his resume) he is still on faculty at Harvard, he may have inside information regarding the affair rumors referenced in previous posts and their validity. Thoughts? Don, do you know anything about RM? or his relationship with Jane? I am not naming him as a suspect, just thinking of places to tap into for more information.

The fourth person polygraphed may not be a POI, so this may be why that person's name is secret. Maybe their info and someone's conflicted so they offered to take the test themselves to prove their truthfulness and/or show the police that the other person was telling lies. This person might have known they were not a seriously suspected of anything, but did no want the police to be misled. So, they did the test not for their own sake, but Jane's.

When my friend was murdered, many people did similar types of things. Helping the investigation was the only way to help someone they cared about. Their names were never released (case is solved).

Going to the Office of Vital Statistics in Cambridge, MA today in an attempt to get a copy of the death certificate (hopefully it should be available as it is a public record). I dont know what information it will give us, but maybe its a start. If I have time, I will stop by Cambridge PD too.....I will give you an update later today....

I'm going to like having you around, T. This is awesome, thank you.

And Tom Waits deserves minor deity status.

just sayin

Ok, as promised an update!......SUCCESS!! I have in my possession the birth and death certificates for Jane!! However, I don't know how to post a PDF document on here....any advice would be greatly appreciated so I can share with you.....I was basically told to go away by the Cambridge PD....Make a formal request...blah, blah, blah....I am still pursuing that avenue and I will update you all accordingly....so for time being....please tell me how to post a PDF file and I will share the scanned death/birth records with you.....

Ausgirl: I agree with you, Tom Waits does deserve a minor deity status..... :)

I think I figured it out...I don't know what additional information this provides, but it can't hurt...Let me know if for some reason the attachments don't work....

EDIT: I read somewhere that in order to find out where someone ended up, it is necessary to start where they began...Jane's death lies somewhere between these two documents. We now have a start point in addition to an endpoint....it is up to us to fill in the blanks....so glad to be here and contributing....we owe it to Jane to keep working on this case. I KNOW that the answer is out there....

Don - Was your ex-wife's sister also studying anthropology or archeology? There is an LN that was later on expedition in Iran with CCLK (same dig) that I believe might have married Tom Beale. Was she related?

Notice that in the death certificate, her middle name is spelled incorrectly. It's correct on the birth certificate. I was surprised to realize that she was only 2 years younger than I.

PP - um.. no? I got another one, to which I replied though...

No, she wasn't.

I answered PP's question, but removed my post because I found that my method no longer works since the update.

So sorry if I caused confusion for anyone.

I take 'Cabot' to mean residence in Cabot Hall, correct?

Don - I don't take it as a criticism at all. I didn't mean for you to really respond! Since I had asked you specifically, I took the opportunity to share those documents on the thread. I've been rummaging through my old files and they were there. Thanks for responding nonetheless.

I thought the same thing about the address. Today, it would be an outrage to be asked!

I don't know about the others but I would love to see more pictures of Jane. I was thrilled when Bibliotaphe posted the one above. Photographs of Jane are very difficult to find.

Um. I posted a few interesting links earlier and I'm not sure what happened to my post??? Everything I posted is publicly available so, I am going to try to post again. All three links relate to the Tepe dig that Jane was on. Of particular interest is DP's thesis as CCLK wrote the forward for it and it includes an interesting summary of all of the various digs at Tepe as well as the people who were involved:

This is a thesis by TB:

The third link is a document that includes a summary of "The Cambridge History of Iran":
