This one put me in mind of little Gabriel as well. I so hope they are together and being the little boys they should have been allowed to be on this earth. Thank you for that lovely thought.

Her family, who are obviously very emotional today, should have been first to speak up if she had any mental issue that severe. Any mental issue too severe to stand up in court should have had said family removing her parental rights years ago so I'm doubting she's having much except overwhelming guilt and fear for her own neck at this point.

I also find mental health issues very difficult to believe given what we have to go on at this moment. To me it seems more as if she is trying to avoid the inevitable. They said produce your child and she no shows, they arrest her and try to arraign her and she claims people are poisoning her and tries to refuse to enter the court room.

She seemed pretty non poisoned when posting selfies on FB and talking about how you never know what life is going to throw at you its just what you do with it that matters and trading schmoopy lovely dovey crap with the Alberto and she seemed pretty non poisoned and fearful to me while she was talking in mid October about how she was FINALLY getting some peace around there.

I have to wonder, is it because little Jeremiah was now gone and the other two kids were so terrified of being disappeared as well that they walked around like ghosts avoiding Alberto whenever possible and minding their Ps and Qs around mom?

Speculation. But its where my head is on this one right now. The Gabriel comparison feels right. Mom may have been abused but I get the feeling she participated in the abuse neglect of her own children as well.

CPS has been involved since 2011. I am pretty sure that predates Alberto's appearance in the picture. So how was the abuse of the children being justified or excused prior to his entry into their lives?

I want answers to all that before deciding mom is a battered woman who is mentally ill to boot. Sorry that's just me.

In June, DCF officials said the social worker assigned to the case received a message from Jeremiah's day care that Elsa was bringing the child to Florida to live with his grandmother. Officials said the social worker never followed up on the claim and failed to conduct monthly home visits.

I really think that the social workers in cases like these should be charged with abuse, homicide, accessory, obstruction of justice. Something has to be done to make these people do their job - protect the children! JMO

the entire system needs an overhaul. That has been my opinion for several years since I started following cases and it remains my opinion today.

Something is very broken in the current DSS system. One major issue is their federal mandate for reunification at all costs when possible. I wish I had some statistics, hard numbers on how many children die yearly after having been left with or returned to abusive parents.

I imagine those numbers are staggering.

On second thought maybe I am not ready for those numbers.

Thank God the little girl was finally able to rescue herself. I hope the strength and courage and smarts she has that allowed her to do that, will also help her to eventually heal enough to live a full and satisfying life.

This kid has falling through the cracks and it should not have happened .I am from the area years ago and I am suoprised the neighbor's did not turn the family in and help those poor sweet children.How can a almost 5 year old be missing for three months ???. Dr. Hanya Bluestone, a forensic psychologist with the state Department of Mental Health, spoke during the arraignment, saying she had serious concerns about Oliver's mental health and questioned whether Oliver even understood the charges against her.

Her attorney, Gavin Reardon, agreed, saying in the roughly 10 hours he spent with his client since her arrest, she has been unable to answer his questions or provide any information that will help in her defense.

A closed-door hearing was also held in juvenile court on Tuesday, according to Worcester District Attorney Spokesman Timothy Connolly.

Reardon would not comment on the outcome of the hearing because it is considered privileged information but Connolly said the general purpose was for Oliver to tell court officers where her son is.

If she does not tell them, she could be held in contempt of court. Connolly said that she could remain in jail indefinitely if she refuses to cooperate.

Dating I don't mind. You get the kids a babysitter, you go out, if you're gonna get down and dirty you go to his place.

Most of these cases, they aren't dating. They're latching onto a new man, moving them in, expecting them to play baby daddies to other men's children and never actually getting to know the person before letting them into the children's lives.

there is a difference IMO between unable and unwilling. It is MOO that this woman is unwilling and not unable.

as to her unwillingness I believe it stems from what her attorney admits is her fear of retribution and not just from family members but of facing the consequences of her choices in caring for her children.

That is simply my own opinion and I am sure others will differ and that is A-okay.

How horrid!!!!! I truly had hoped that after Caylee and Casey Anthony that we would never ever hear about another case like this again. Not a mother who couldn't produce or refused to produce her child or a mother who allowed such a thing to happen..... It truly is a very sick world we live in....

A police detective who began investigating Oliver’s disappearance just this month following a complaint said he was given a 51A filed on May 14, 2013, stating “the victim,” whose name was redacted, told “a school nurse that his mother, Elsa Oliver, struck him with a belt prior to going to school earlier in the morning on 5/10/2013.”

The report continues, “(Redacted) made a report to the Reingold School staff that his mother got mad at (redacted) and hit (redacted) with a belt. (Redacted) said that (redacted) mother hit (redacted) on his back, leg and feet. (Redacted) further states that he tried to block with his feet. The school nurse reports that (redacted) she checked (redacted) and observed a slight “pinkness” on (redacted) back, but could not confirm it was from a belt mark.”

The document continues: “Based on the investigation by DCF it appears that the children continue to make allegations of physical abuse by Elsa Oliver. Ms. Oliver admits to DCF of striking the children with a belt, but she states that (redacted) gets his dates confused and the allegation is an old one from 2012. Without further investigation, this detective has verified through the school nurse and school records that there was a documented injury to (redacted) on 5/10/2013.”

A police report also indicated that the mother’s boyfriend had viciously abused the woman and her children.

The above does not indicate an abused/battered woman whose only crime was to fail to protect her children from boyfriend. It suggests a mother who was abusive towards her own children. MOO her beinga bused by boyfriend and allowing boyfriend to abuse her kids is just part of the picture. This woman was abusing her children before she ever met Alberto. I am willing to bet money.

AS' family believes that to be the case too, as evidenced by some public postings online. Apparently, he was also told that Jeremiah went to live with his grandmother. I fully believe she was abusive to them, but I'm not 100% convinced about AS.

State officials disclosed today that the last time anyone from the state social services agency saw 5-year-old Jeremiah Oliver alive was more than six months ago.

The Fitchburg boy is now feared dead after allegedly suffering brutal beatings by his mother’s boyfriend, and two social services workers have been fired for their “serious failure” to properly supervise his case.

As a law enforcement investigation continues, officials from the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families today acknowledged a key date, revealing that May 20 was the last time a social worker saw Jeremiah, during a visit to his home in Fitchburg.

That visit was prompted by a report that Jeremiah’s 7-year-old sister made earlier that month to staff at her school, saying she was being abused by her mother.

DCF officials did not disclose what they found at the home on May 20, but acknowledged that Jeremiah was there with his sister and older brother.

DCF officials also said today that they had “additional contacts” with the family between September and December, including one visit to the home. Jeremiah was not there, however, during that visit.

Police say Jeremiah was last seen alive by a relative on Sept. 14, but DCF only noticed that he was missing nearly three months later, on Dec. 2, when the sister reported to her school that he mother’s boyfriend was beating her, her brothers and her mother.

A union representing social workers in Massachusetts is criticizing the firings of a caseworker and supervisor in connection with the case of a missing 5-year-old boy in Fitchburg.

A spokesman for SEIU Local 509 says Department of Children & Families Commissioner Olga Roche is using the workers as scapegoats to deflect attention from problems caused by soaring caseloads at the agency.
