MA MA - Joan Webster, 25, Logan Airport, Boston, 28 Nov 1981

Thank you for remembering Joan. Yesterday was a very emotional day for me. I watched the clock and envisioned the events 43 years ago. I know exactly where I was when Joan stepped off that plane, even though I did not know for three days that Joan was missing.

I am waiting patiently for the results of a review of Joan's case. It's still open. If the current custodian is to be believed, the only thing they have in the files regarding the crime scene is a boat registration. That is unreasonable and not evidence of any crime. To me, that suggests that Tim Burke and the MSP did not provide all of the records to the next custodian when Joan was found in their jurisdiction. They hid exculpatory evidence to promote a false narrative with no regard for who they endangered. That was the practice in Suffolk County at the time.

The truth has a way of coming to the surface, God willing.

This is somewhat unrelated, but I found myself thinking of Joan and Eve’s book recently while reading a book called “Guarded by Jackals”.

The book is related to the Oakland County Child Killer (MI) cases/investigation of 1976-77, and purports to reveal the ways in which the case was obfuscated and corrupted, primarily by the DA at the time. The DA allegedly did this at the behest of a wealthy donor, who was attempting to protect one of the likely perpetrators, his son.

The focus is on making the case that the DA and/or his minions deliberately torpedoed the investigation, rather than the crime(s) itself.

The (anonymous) author brings a lot of receipts, so it’s definitely interesting and probably beyond dispute that the failure of the OC Task Force to solve the case was due in large part to politically-driven meddling and outright falsification of records in some cases.

Lots of similarities with the handling of Joan’s case; while I was reading it, I kept thinking - Eve should read this. It’s quite disheartening and depressing, actually, so maybe not!

- Discovered via Cathy Broad, sister of Tim King, one of the OCCK victims. The first 9 chapters can be found here, if any of y’all are interested:
