That's what I was thinking, too. By tonight, we should have some answers.

Hopefully the schools are checking on girls the around that age to see who is absent today and contacting those parents to make sure their child is accounted for.

Our school absence system calls parents and leaves voicemails if their child is not in school. I'm not sure if they do that at these schools but its possible they will call the parents at home or work. Whatever number was put down as a contact. I hope it doesn't take that long to identify the missing child. Every second counts..

Given that the local news channels have no updates, I'm hoping that maybe this was a misunderstanding on the part of the witness and perhaps what he/she saw was a domestic incident that was mistaken for an abduction. Not that the former scenario is good, but would be better than a stranger abduction in most circumstances.

I'd also point out that unlike many places, Boston public school students don't always attend their closest neighborhood school due to the lottery system that is used. So it's not as easy as merely checking the closest school for unexplained absences.

I think so. 5-10yrs is kindergarten (or even preK, where they start the year at age 4 and turn 5 in the school year) up to 5th grade.

This could definitely be what it is. The specific neighborhood where this took place has a lower socioeconomic demographic and people who live there may have their reasons to be wary of coming to the attention of "the system." As most people are...but especially here perhaps, where not everybody is a documented person, where people may have other legal things going on, etc etc.

Some people, if they don’t have kids in their family or work with kids, are just really bad at estimating ages beyond broad categories like “toddler,” “kid,” or “teen.” And unfortunately, I’d think that providing references for comparison could just make the witness’s memory foggier (JMO). Maybe if a series of photos or illustrations was shown all at once, so order wouldn’t impact the witness’s memory? I have no idea how LE could best narrow it down tbh.

Yeah I don’t have kids or siblings so I have trouble distinguish what age children are. It’s: baby, toddler, k-5, middle school, high school for me.

Probably LE were never able to confirm that what the witness reported really took place. Or, whatever was seen by the witness was actually an innocent interaction and police were able to figure that out.
