He may be too old for to be this UID and it sounds like Leon had some dental work, but I immediately thought of this UID found in Newburyport, MA which is about 2 hours from West Springfield.

That UID was found in 1992, date of death was believed to be between 1987 and 1991.

I-Team: Missing People in W. Mass

[snip]

According to the National Missing Persons Database, there are about 70 people considered missing in Massachusetts. About a dozen of them are here in western Massachusetts.

To name a few, West Springfield's Leon Corriveau disappeared back in 1986.

Bumping for Leon, a fellow New Englander. I hope this is him. Very strong facial resemblance. Case listed in Feb 2016
https://identifyus.org/en/cases/14794
The height for Leon seems off, but I'm wondering if someone got confused between 60 inches vs. 6 feet.
I sent an email off to the case manager, since it's the same for both.

I got a reply back from the NamUs rep, stating they are waiting for the DNA of the UID to be finished so they can do comparisons. So grateful for the reply. They must have the patience of a saint to answer inquiries as they do.

  • #7
So they are doing DNA testing now on the body from 1991?
It is a strong resemblance.

  • #8
Yes, they are waiting for the testing to be finished so they can do comparisons to this MP and others.
I'm hoping this is him so the family can have closure. It might not answer the question of what happened to him during the time he was gone, but they can lay him to rest and this JD can have his name/family back, which is what they all deserve.

  • #9
Why are they just doing it now?

The unidentified remains case was just added to NamUs. Maybe Mass has a back log and are just getting around to it or playing catch up? I just noticed that New York added a whole bunch of old UP cases to Namus in the past month, too. My state hasn't even fired up their cold case unit yet, we're a bit behind the times, but we only have one UID and he is in NamUs. Funding is/was an issue. We have about 23 missing persons cases, and 6-7 of them are children, depending on which site you check. One isn't in NCMEC, not sure why.

I will check in. Hope there's some closure.

DNA tests for UP14794 are still pending, so still no match, however, I noticed that both Leon and the UP have fingerprints available, only Leon's don't appear to be in AFIS. I sent an email to the NamUs case manager in hopes they can speed things up a bit and compare the prints instead of waiting on DNA.

DNA completed, not sure when, but I think it's been long enough to state that this is not Leon, as the UP is still in NamUs.
I'm speculating, though.

Leon's NamUs profile has been modified today.
He currently has 32 rule outs/exclusions - all from Virginia. I wonder about if they actually compared him to the UID's in MA and other surrounding states likes mentioned in above posts.

The circumstances on his case are very vague. I wish we knew more.,
