Police trying to identify man whose body was found in canal

The man is described as a white, approximately 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 250 or more pounds. The man had dentures and was wearing a cross pendant.

Attempts to identify the man through missing persons records in Lowell and surrounding towns have been unsuccessful, police said.

He's not in Namus yet.

Hi everyone!
New member and Lowell resident/community advocate here!

Authorities are turning to the public for help identifying the body of a man found in the Northern Canal in Lowell on April 21, 2021.

The deceased is described as a white male, about 5-feet, 7-inches to 5-feet, 10-inches tall, and weighing 250 pounds or more, according to Lowell police.
He had dentures and was wearing a cross pendant (see attached photo).

His body is estimated to have been in the water for about a month, making his death date mid March 2021.
Autopsy is still pending, and I'm hopeful maybe the dentures can be traced back to a dentist/patient. Police and authorities have not been able to match the body to any missing persons, so it is likely he has not been reported or even noticed to be missing by loved ones at this time.

I've attached the a picture of the pendant, hopefully someone will recognize it.

Also, these remains were found along a canal that has some homeless camps, so I have a feeling this man may be transient, therefore leading to this difficulty in identifying him.

Additionally: here's a photo and map of the area the body was found.

Google Maps

Lowell National Historical Park - Northern Canal Walkway is a 1.1 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Lowell, Massachusetts that features a river and is good for all skill levels.

This area has a large bridge over it, as well as many others up and down the river that connect the city of Lowell.

Also, these bridges are common for suicides so that is another theory bouncing around in my brain.

That's a beautiful piece of jewelry. I wonder how big it is. Looks substantial.

I'm wondering if there's anything on this piece of jewelry like a serial number, brand, or name of where it was made that could possibly be traceable.
Anyone with jewelry knowledge here??

Update: I was able to trace the cross to this seller: https://www.bradfordexchange.com/pr...qlJw_XZovthBjUGYBBhdEPKyXaJ-IArxoCi9gQAvD_BwE

Ironically enough, it is featured on their Facebook page's cover image:

I reached out to their customer service to let them know of their jewelry being found on an unidentified body, and encouraged them to contact Lowell Police to possibly send over some purchase records.

Great job! That jewelry is purchased often via mail. There should be records, IMO.

Thank you! That's exactly what I was thinking! I reached out to LPD and spoke to a detective who I sent the info over to as well. Got a response from The Bradford Exchange as well and they said they would forward it to some high ups and asked me for a follow up email.
Progress!

Question - has anyone read anywhere if this guy had a bottom set of teeth? He had a top set of dentures...did he not need a bottom set, or could they have become dislodged during decomp?

Scouring local missing persons reports and other clues has so far left police with no answers about the identity of a man whose body was found in Lowell’s Northern Canal over a week ago, and investigators are now hoping the public and a black and silver cross pendant worn by the man might help.

Lowell Police, who are investigating the man’s discovery with State Police detectives attached to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, asked the public for help with the case Wednesday afternoon, releasing a photo of the pendant along with a description of the man, a white male who was 5 feet, 7 inches to 5 feet, 10 inches tall about 250 pounds or more. The only other identifying features released about the man is that he had dentures, and is believed to have been in the water for over a month.

The identity of the man, and how he ended up dead in the canal, have been under investigation since April 21, when a passerby called police about 1 p.m., after spotting what appeared to be a body in the canal in the area of 145 Pawtucket St. Lowell firefighters helped police remove the body from the water.

Police Capt. Mark LeBlanc said detectives automatically check missing person reports in Lowell and surrounding towns in such cases, but that they have so far found no leads as to who the man might be. He said police have also canvassed the city speaking to the homeless population and others in search of clues about who the man might be.

LeBlanc said investigators believe they’ve identified the origin of the pendant and are working with the manufacturer to possibly identify the buyer. It remains unclear whether that will be possible, though, so police are hoping someone locally recognizes the pendant.

I think this guy could be a possibility... he is African-American, but on appearances alone he is pretty light-skinned. His metrics fit well, and he vanished in 2016, about a 3 hour drive away. Wish I knew if he had mental health concerns because that would explain why someone would 'run away' like that. All I can find is his son was shot to death months after his father went missing :(
Frederick Richardson Sr. - 69 y/o, 5'7 - 5'9", 220-260lbs, last seen May 2016, grey hair, balding, had 'dentures' (not mentioned if top/bottom). Noticed he's wearing a big necklace in his pics, not a cross necklace though.

I think it’s this dude. If I could find my phone, I’d call the phone number. My 5 month old goddaughter is sleeping right next to me. I don’t wanna turn on the lights.

Did you find any info about Davis's dentals? Or if that picture was old and his hair was greying? I can't find him anywhere else, or on namus.

Here's two more guys with grey hair and only upper dentures. They'd both have to have gained weight since they went missing. Not a lot available on either.
Ronald Wayne Davis - last seen May 2015 in Georgia, known to hitchhike and travel around frequently. In his 2010 photo, he is wearing 2 necklaces. One looks to have a silver chain, but I think? the chain is thinner than the cross necklace's.
Original

Ira Eugene Goff - last seen Illinois 2014, on foot. Less likely bc of that aspect, and distance.

Nothing about dentures. Nothing but that article and what I just eta to my post above. I did a very thorough search though. He’s not been found.
