Mistrial BUT judge set date of July 22nd to ‘see what she will do next’. Not good for defense
I'm not sure it signals anything either way. They have to make a formal record of what they are going to do, right? She'd be unwise to make a snap decision today.

Wonder if we will get a breakdown.

I really hope the jury isn't going to keep mum about what the split was. That would be very frustrating.

Judge gave no instructions to the jury in open court about speaking to the attorneys or speaking to the media.
She can't. Once a mistrial is declared the jury is free from any restrictions. They can talk to anyone they want.

My national news just said KR plans to speak

Paul O just said something not VERY NICE, maybe a threat, ugly face to KR. Looks like she gave it back.

Ah, didn’t see that - maybe someone caught a video of it.

Very sad for JO family .. no matter the verdict it wouldn’t change their pain

I do NOT understand this. They couldn’t prove that JOK was hit by a vehicle, PERIOD. It seems that peoples opinions on policing, authority, and potential corruption overrode hard facts. I wonder if the defense pushing the police corruption theory ‘caused’ this, as people tend to not want to think that those policing our communities could be corrupt and/or acting in their own interests.
Similarly, I wonder if a mistrial would have occurred had JOK been a civilian rather than LE.
JMO IMO

Oh wow, I missed that!

Probably not from the court but I'm sure some of the jurors will talk about what happened and how many voted for what.

“… deeply held convictions…” that some jury members cannot get passed? Like considering LE could be deceitful?
Smh. Moo
I am almost certain that the police factor prevented people from approaching the FACTS of the case with an unbiased mind.

This was as he was leaving his bench walking out. I knew she should be afraid of him and or the guilty wishers.

Mama O'Keefe crying brought me to tears. I feel so bad. Because it is very likely there will be no justice for their loved one. I feel like John as the victim was lost in all of this. The party carnival atmosphere near the court everyday probably doesn't help. It is all just so sad.

No. Judges almost always tell them that they can speak if they want but that they don't have to speak. That is standard -- a routine instruction in many cases.

It’s up to the state to make that call, so it’ll be interesting if they do decide to refile.

JOK's mum is opening crying in court. She can't take another trial.

Feel terrible for her.
she will push to have CW bring this case again...she really believes that JR killed her son.

Me too and am also super angry. They've been badly let down by the cw and probably don't realise it. IMO ARRG

It's quite touching watching Karen Read's family, they are all taking turns thanking and hugging each of member of the defence team.
Mistrial or not, they are SO grateful.

@BienickWCVB

The jury has sent another note.

We are now back in the courtroom. Both teams of lawyers are here. Read family is here. The O'Keefe family is coming up the courthouse steps.

We don't yet know what the note says. This is the first time we've been back in the courthouse since the judge gave the Tuey-Rodriguez instructions. Any further deadlock will lead to dismissal.

"Line 'em up," the court officers says of the jurors. The judge enters the courtroom.

"All right, the jury is at an impasse," the judge says.

The jurors enter. Some have stern looks on their faces. All look tired.

The judge declares a mistrial.

Some members of the O'Keefe family are crying and hugging. His mother Peg is wiping her nose. His brother Paul is hanging his head.
