Hard to believe young folks like Julie Nagel and Sarah Levinson would run the risk of being jailed for perjury if indeed someone squealed and they were found to be lying. Not to mention ALL of the others who had to be coached to lie as well.

And I believe perjury is a felony in Massachusetts and would have to be mentioned in the future on job applications and other important documents.
Yeah seems preposterous, MO

This all sounds like a big hate party on the greater Boston area PDs. No matter the geographical areas around many large cities, people hate the PDs and there are misdeeds and corruptions happening sometimes to earn that.

The death of JOK is not directly involved in that, MO. It's about a guy, a drunk guy, who was incapacitated outside in a blizzard. Odds are he was hit by a vehicle. Since KR admitted it and then lied about ever being there and considering her demeanor afterwards...my money is on she did it in a drunken rage, spur of the moment. Then unfortunately she went home and slept while her boyfriend laid outside dying. She waited too long to go back. A snow plow may have even been by during that time and contributed to the events unwittingly...but KR knew she hit him. AJMO
"Nope! Homeowner is a Boston cop too."
Did you see the parts of the trial where experts said it wasn't possible he was hit by a car?

I totally agree with you.
I confess I haven’t followed this case much since after the first few weeks. My thoughts at that time were that she was drunk and he was drunk, everybody was drunk. She drove drunk in bad weather. She dropped him off and then, because she was drunk, she hit him while she was leaving. He lays there unconscious and dies. I felt then, and feel now, that she was probably overcharged. That was all
As far as any corruption in the Boston PD, that is for another day. I will admit though that any conspiracy theory whipped up by a guy who goes by the name, Turtleboy, does not move the needle for me.
I know that’s an unpopular opinion, but it’s mine.
Mine too. Watch that doc on Netflix if you can. TB is truly despicable in his behaviors and it gives you a closer look at KR herself. I'd recommend it.

So what if the homeowner is a Boston cop? That makes him the baddie and the one who left his fellow brother in blue out in a blizzard to die after a dig attack or beating him up? Nope, not buying that. I'm buying what I heard KR say herself and what she said to others. I believe them. I don't put any stock in this "they" done him in and then put him there on the lawn to freeze to death. She did that by hitting him and leaving him there instead of cooling down, driving around the block and coming back for him...getting her butt out of the car then, when he needed her. She knows what she did, she admitted it.

Really only watching the actual called to testify people in question will let people see and hear what was seen or not seen or heard. All of them. The we were talking about a loaf of bread in the car so wasn't looking that way, things like that.

Can we discuss KR's voicemails to JOK the night after she left the house? I've listened to them, as I'm sure most of us here on WS have.. She's objectively raging and furiously mad. Not in a sound frame of mind whatsoever, yet she was driving and drunk.

I realize that this is all conjecture (what I'm about to say, not what I mentioned previously), but if someone has that much rage inside of them and tries her best to downplay it in the documentary and to the jury.. why? We have all heard it, and it doesn't sound like the demure KR her expensive defense team has been paid to portray her to be.

It's always struck me as weird that the voicemails with her boozy hatred leaking while she was operating a vehicle hasn't carried more weight (hello - drinking and driving - it's okay for her but illegal for the rest of us?).

My hope is that his family gets justice and closure. I truly feel for them and for everyone who's been roped into this circus. #hoslongforjusticeforjohn
The problem with her drinking and driving is that each and every one of them, cops included, were drinking and driving, and not only that, permitting others to drink and drive (remember the testimony that others saw KR and JO bringing in their own glasses of alcohol to the Waterfall and they left with full drinks too). These are the same LE that are supposed to uphold laws. And all the young people in the house seemed to be drunk too, especially Julie Nagel. And remember Higgins didn't stay long because they didn't have his preferred drink, so off he drove TO WORK after drinking all afternoon/evening to get behind the wheel of more vehicles to move them. They all condoned drinking and driving and taught it to their kids to boot. What's curious is that Karen called him a pervert. Maybe he instigated jealousy in her for all we know. We don't know!
MOO.

Get in good trouble, necessary trouble.

Tell that to Proctor who said it and failed to investigate his friends the cops properly.

This thread is about the actual trial, I know people pop in who have missed all the nuances of the people on the stand, the interactions with the judge, being questioned by the lawyers, experts, it went on for a long time, this trial, the first one. So addressing anything less just seems kind of foggy and one dimensional. Kind of like discussing a show. Too important this trial and events are, as it could of been any of us under the wrong circumstances and people involved and police department involved, it goes on. Never an investigation that was done as expected by law, per also the audit recently done of the dept. Never any police investigation into the homeowners house nor interview with him. Reading that audit report that came out today says A LOT.

Neither a shoddy police investigation or a substandard audit report exonerate Read. All they do is muddy the water.

Either you believe Read hit JOK and killed him or you believe in a substantial, collusive coverup where quite a few folks were willing to perjure themselves to protect an individual.

Occam's Razor ...

She cannot, there's a gag order in place.
There was no gag order in place between KR and Turtleboy. Recently a gag order was placed on KR's attorneys. Where are you getting this information as it is just not true.

The Commonwealth wants records of communications between Karen Read and "Turtleboy" (Aidan Kearney) for the period from April 8, 2023, to October 5, 2023, specifically focusing on evidence of witness intimidation or related activities.

The attorney gag order was issued Mar 7, 2025

Karen Read judge issues gag order on lawyers, in win for prosecutors

Read Judge Beverly Cannone's ruling below, in which she wrote, "an order limiting extrajudicial statements of counsel is both appropriate and necessary to ensure a fair and impartial trial and finds that no reasonable, less restrictive alternative to the order is available"

Wait, didn't the defense successfully frustrate the CW here given the grand jury investigated and failed to indict KR for witness intimidation? The CW tried so hard here with the grand jury that they even kept this GJ investigation from KR and her defense!

In other words, I thought the judge settled this by limiting the scope to seeking evidence of KR's consciousness of guilt during the period cited by OP. JMO

Don't quote me, but I don't think the complete ruling is in yet. Part came from TB's judge but there is still something pending, I believe, on KR's end. Just not sure atm.

I see the issue was settled.
Updated on March 25, 2025: Judge Beverly Cannone denied the prosecution's motion requesting messages between Karen Read and her attorney.

Doesn't the gag order prevent discovery from being leaked so as not to try the case in the media but wait until the trial? You're saying that's only for the lawyers, not the client, they can leak anything they want, to whomever they want, with immunity?

Occam's Razor ...
The muddy waters can and should lead to reasonable doubt, in a fair and honest courtroom.
This "investigation" was shoddy at best, as seen during the first trial and events since (Hello, Proctor and audit).
How long have the issues that were revealed in the audit gone on?
We have at least three pretty important cases here at WS that Proctor was involved in, and to me, that says a lot.
The coverup claim, while wild at first glance, is much, much less wild after watching the first trial.
IMO.
