That sheet has bothered me from.the gitgo.....what does it take for the LE to recognize Red Flags ,,????
Where the H,$$ is Sandra ??
Is it a red flag or a red herring?
I've never heard LE mention the sheet. Only Sandra's daughter mentioned it and I believe she thought it was the fitted sheet.
The story as told by the daughter goes basically like this:
Mom needed undercarriage work of some sort to be ready for the winter that was still 4.5 months away Son-in-law meets her at mechanic's. Sandra's car is left there. Son-in-law takes her to buy ciggies at local convenience store. The CCTV tape from the store is the last time she's seen. SIL says he drops her at her home at around 5 pm. He says he did not see her actually enter the house. As far as we know, no neighbor videos exist showing her return. There may not be any cameras in the area, but hopefully the cops checked with everyone. Can't imagine they wouldn't have done that right away.
Daughter is at the beach the following day. Tries calling Mom to talk about the car repairs. Gets no answer on Mom's landline which is her only means of communication. Daughter says she becomes very concerned. She knows Sandra has no car and no known friends in the area. Her husband tells her not to worry, so after the beach neither she nor her husband make the seven minute trip from their own house (the daughter's estimate is that her house was a 7 minute drive from Mom's, about 3 or 4 miles) to check on her at any point on Thursday. (Myself, I would have checked on a 54 year old smoker home alone with no vehicle and no cell. Did she slip in the shower? Have a stroke? Seems it would have been simple enough to do a quick check on her. But I digress.)
Friday morning she plans on dropping her kids off on her way to work. She gets a strange feeling, so she tells the kids to stay in the car. Enters the house, finds the dog with no water, and she says lights and AC are on. She didn't call the police but instead dropped the kids off with another family member and continues on to her work. (I would have called 911 immediately, but again, that's just me.) At some point during the day (not clear when), the son-in-law walks into the Hanson PD to report her missing.
I'm not clear at what point the daughter would have had the opportunity to inspect the bed linens, especially as she seemed in a hurry to get to work. Maybe her husband did before he went to the police? We don't know. We don't know if the police found the fitted sheet in a dresser. Or in a laundry hamper. Or if it is really missing. I've only read there was no indication of a struggle in the house according to the cops. They've said little else and I don't think we can read into that one way or the other. I don't think they thought the house was a crime scene though. They didn't even do a full forensic inspection of the house until a month later, which is possibly telling.
As I mentioned upthread I am familiar with the area and I do not believe she went out for a walk that night alone. There is almost literally no where to go without a car. The street is short and unpaved and the main road it is off of is dark at night and there are no sidewalks. And there really is nothing much within walking distance anyway. She clearly didn't go out to walk the dog as he never left the home.
The clothes she had on in the store video, including her shoes, were not found in the house. I believe the police said her handbag was missing as well. That would indicate something went wrong for her Wednesday evening or overnight. I do not believe she left on her own. Assuming she made it into the house Wednesday afternoon, she left with someone to go somewhere. Somewhere where she almost certainly met her demise.
